There is provided a method and apparatus for allocating transmission resources in a wireless network in which some of the terminals communicate with the base station by exchanging communication frames that are compatible with a first communication protocol while other terminals receive communications from the base station that are compatible with a second communication protocol by using non-standardized communication frames or communication frames that are compatible with another standardized protocol. The base station transmits a plurality of frames, some of which are compatible with the first communication protocol while others&#x2014;with the second communication protocol. The terminals that are operative to receive frames of the second communication protocol are capable of decoding frames that are compatible with both communication protocols, whereas terminals that are operative to receive frames of the first communication protocol are capable of decoding only standardized communication frames of the first communication protocol.

Method and apparatus for improving transmission reliability in wireless communications network

A method for transmission mode selection in a MIMO radio system between a spatial diversity (A-matrix) mode and a spatial multiplexing (B-matrix) mode comprises: obtaining a channel condition number; if the channel condition number is above a selected threshold, and a signal to interference plus noise ratio exceeds a predetermined threshold then selecting spatial multiplexing; and otherwise selecting spatial diversity.

Mode selection for MIMO in wireless communication

A source binary code that complies with a source architecture is translated to a target binary code that complies with a target architecture. The target binary code includes a first target portion translated from a respective source portion of the source binary code. During execution of the target binary code on a processor that complies with a target architecture, it is determined whether to retranslate the source portion to produce a second target portion that is more optimized to the target architecture than the first target portion or to retranslate the source portion to produce a third target portion that is more optimized to the target architecture than the second target portion.

Automatic level control

In an embodiment, a transmitter section for a mobile device includes a predistorter for predistorting an input signal input to a modulation section. Predistortion values may be selected from a look-up table in response to a fed back signal from the output of the modulation section. A delay between the input signal and the fed back signal may be determined in two stages: a coarse delay estimation for determining a whole number of sample cycles, and a fine delay estimation for determining a fraction of a sample cycle to be added to the coarse delay estimation value.

A method of assigning values to parameters for IQ mismatch cancellation. The method includes providing values to a processing path of a communication device, passing the provided values through an IQ modulator, at least one non-linear element and an IQ demodulator, to produce distorted values, and estimating at least one parameter for cancellation of IQ mismatch effects of the communication device responsive to the provided values and to the distorted values.

IQ mismatch cancellation

A transmitter has a transmission path with an IQ modulator and a feedback path with an IQ demodulator. DC offset is determined by estimating a DC offset of the IQ demodulator, adaptively estimating a DC offset of the IQ modulator at least partially from the demodulator DC offset, subtracting the estimated demodulator DC offset from the feedback path and subtracting the estimated modulator DC offset from the transmission path.

DC offset cancellation

A method of generating values of a predistortion look up table for linearization of a transmitter. The method includes accumulating a plurality of pairs of values representing input and output values of samples entering one or more non-linear elements of the transmitter, fitting the pairs of values into a parameteric model of at least one of the one or more non-linear elements, so as to determine values for the parameters of the parameteric model, and generating values of the look up table responsive to the fitted parameteric model.
