Monitoring an injection process executed by a variable dose injection device with feedback means for generating a number of feedback events proportionate to the dose to be determined is disclosed. A dialed or injected dose is determined by measuring a first signal of the process comprising a first signal peak related to a feedback event; detecting the first signal peak in the first signal; selecting an evaluation interval comprising the detected peak and adapted to an expected peak duration; deriving, from the first signal limited to the evaluation interval, a feature or characterizing parameter of the feedback event; identifying, from the derived feature, the feedback event as one of a dial up, dial down, or expel feedback event, and counting identified feedback events to determine the dialed or the ejected dose. The two-stage approach with serially executed peak detection and peak identification allows to optimize data storage and processing power.

The engaging device has a spring-loaded engaging body that cooperates with an associated engaging surface of the second positioning device of the patient interface in the coupled state of the patient interface. A patient interface system for positioning a patient's eye relative to a laser device for laser surgery is disclosed that includes a patient interface for coupling to the patient's eye, and a patient interface holder for arranging the patient interface on the laser device. The patient interface holder has a suction duct for connecting to a suction device, and the patient interface has a fluid-conducting device that couples to the patient interface holder, and when in the coupled state, together form a fluid path which fluidically couples the suction duct to the patient interface in order to hold a first positioning device of the patient interface against the patient's eye by a relative negative pressure generated by the suction device. A method is disclosed for coupling a patient interface to a patient interface holder, and a patient interface. A patient interface holder is also disclosed.

A surgical apparatus comprises a body, a user input feature, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a blade cooling system. The end effector comprises a clamp arm and an ultrasonic blade that may be coupled with an ultrasonic transducer. The clamp arm is configured to pivot toward and away from the ultrasonic blade. The cooling system is operable to deliver liquid coolant to the ultrasonic blade to thereby cool the ultrasonic blade. The user input feature is operable to both actuate the clamp arm and actuate the cooling system.

A release device for releasing a flowable preparation includes an electrical energy source, a control unit connected to the energy source, a sensor unit, a release element and an acoustic transducer. The sensor unit is a piezoelectric element suitable for picking up sound waves and/or structure-borne noise from the surrounding environment and converting them into a sensor signal which is converted in the control unit into a control signal for the release element. The release element is the same piezoelectric element and is supplied with electrical signals from the control unit and sprays at least one first preparation from at least one first container. The acoustic transducer is the same piezoelectric element and is supplied with electrical signals from the control unit, which electrical signals are converted by the piezoelectric element into audible acoustic signals in a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
