A system and method for obtaining an intra-oral X-ray image of a patient. The system includes an information carrier plate having an affixed NFC/RFID tag. The NFC/RFID tag includes a memory. A primary tagging device reads and writes temporary information into the tag's memory over a first communication channel. A scanner is in communication with a secondary tagging device to read and write the temporary information saved in the tag's memory over a second communication channel.

System and method for computed radiography using near field communication technology

A method for obtaining an X-ray image of a subject on a flexible information carrier plate for computed radiography. A memory is affixed to a surface of the plate, wherein the affixed memory stores information about the plate and is in wireless communication with a computer. A first scan date is stored in the affixed memory. Obtaining the X-ray image uses steps of storing at least a job identifier and a scan status for the plate in the affixed memory; acquiring image data from a scan of the plate following exposure to X-rays, acquiring at least the job identifier from the affixed memory, and associating the acquired image data with the acquired job identifier; incrementing a scan count value and updating the scan status in the affixed memory; erasing image content from the plate; and storing the acquired image data in a second, computer-accessible memory according to the acquired job identifier.

Method and system for computed radiography using a radio frequency identification device

An apparatus for obtaining an intraoral x-ray image from a patient, the apparatus has an x-ray source and a radio-frequency transceiver coupled to the x-ray source and energizable to transmit an interrogation signal, wherein the transceiver is in signal communication with four or more antennae. An intraoral image detector forms an image upon exposure to radiation received from the x-ray source. A radio-frequency transponder is coupled to the image detector and is configured to respond to the interrogation signal by transmitting a wireless response signal. A control logic processor is in communication with the transceiver and provides an output signal indicative of the spatial position of the image detector according to response signals received from the transponder at the four or more antennae. An indicator responds to the output signal by indicating the relative position of the image detector.

Computed radiography positioning method and system

A method for licensing a system for obtaining an X-ray image of a subject. The system employs flexible information carrier plates for computed radiography, which are exposed to X-rays and then scanned in a scanner. A license media is provided with a RFID transponder, which stores in its memory identification information referring to the system components as well as information referring to an amount of valid licenses available for use of the system components. When the identification information stored in the memory of the license media RFID transponder matches the identification information transmitted to the scanner by a processing and acquisition station the carrier plates are scanned automatically.

Computed radiography license method and system

A scanner for processing intra-oral flexible information carrier plate exposed to X-rays and an envelope for the plate. The scanner comprises housing with an opening for entering an enveloped plate. The envelope is provided with a protrusion and the opening of the scanner is provided with a shoulder. When the enveloped plate is entered in the opening the protrusion abuts the shoulder such that the plate is allowed to exit from the envelope and pass inside the housing while the envelope is retained outside the housing.

A photostimulable plate reading device. The device includes: at least one photostimulable plate carrying image data and having two opposite surfaces; an illuminator for homogeneously illuminating a first one of the two opposite surfaces of the at least one photostimulable plate with light emitted in a first wavelength range, the illumination causing the at least one photostimulable plate both to emit light in a second wavelength range by photostimulated luminescence and to scatter light in the first wavelength range; a filter for preventing the light scattered in the first wavelength range from passing and for allowing the light emitted in the second wavelength range to pass, the filter facing a second one of the two opposite surfaces of the at least one photostimulable plate; and a detector composed of a two dimensional array of pixels for detecting the light allowed to pass and for obtaining image data therefrom.

Photostimulable plate reading device

A scanning apparatus including a cylindrical member and an optical system. The cylindrical member rotates about a rotational axis and has an outer surface to support a storage phosphor sample thereon. The optical system moves in translation parallel to the rotational axis to scan the sample. The optical system comprises an opening, an excitation beam, an integrating member, and a single detector. The excitation beam is directed through the opening to impinge on a sample and cause light to be emitted from the sample. The integrating member reflects the emitted light using an interior three-dimensional polynomial surface providing diffuse reflection. The single detector is disposed adjacent the integrating member for collecting the reflected emitted light.

Scanning apparatus

Methods and apparatus that facilitate exposure and/or automatic transfer of an image recording medium from an apparatus adapted to handle the image recording medium, such as a cassette, to an image acquisition system, such as an image reader. In one exemplary implementation, a side-access cassette for handling an image recording medium is provided that facilitates the automatic transfer of the image recording medium from the cassette into an automatic loader and from the automatic loader into the cassette. The cassette may further include a radiation conversion window to attenuate radiation during high energy X-ray imaging such that the cassette and automatic loader may be employed in a variety of X-ray imaging processes and techniques. In one aspect, such a conversion window allows recording media such as phosphor plates to be exposed using source radiation incident to the cassette having energy levels on the order of MeV, which is significantly higher than that typically used to expose phosphor plates.
