A system includes a filtering module that filters a first signal that indicates an amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gas upstream from a catalyst, and that filters a second signal that indicates amounts of NOx and ammonia (NH3) in exhaust gas downstream from the catalyst. A slip determination module determines whether NH3 is present in exhaust gas downstream from the catalyst based on a frequency response of the first and second signals.

Identifying ammonia slip conditions in a selective catalytic reduction application

A method for monitoring torque in a gear train includes coincidently determining angles of rotation of first and second rotationally coupled members of the gear train. Each of the members employs a respective rotational position sensor. Each of said angles of rotation are determined based upon times corresponding to a last signal pulse, a next-to-last signal pulse, and a total quantity of signal pulses generated by the respective rotational position sensor during a current sampling interval. A twist angle corresponding to a difference between the angles of rotation of the first and second rotationally coupled members of the gear train is determined, and torque corresponding to the twist angle is calculated.

Method and apparatus to determine torque in a powertrain system

A method for hydraulically charging a fluid circuit in a vehicle includes calculating a fluid volume of the fluid circuit via a controller, and comparing a speed of the vehicle to a calibrated speed threshold. The method also includes calculating a vehicle deceleration rate when the speed of the vehicle is less than the calibrated speed threshold and the fluid volume is less than a calibrated volume threshold. The fluid circuit is then hydraulically charged to a target volume, using a fluid pump, at a hydraulic charging rate that corresponds to the calculated vehicle deceleration rate. Scalable hydraulic charging in a vehicle having engine autostop/start functionality

A vehicle having engine stop-start functionality includes a transmission, engine, and controller. The transmission includes a clutch, and the engine includes a crankshaft. The controller is in communication with the engine and the transmission, and is configured for detecting a commanded shut down of the engine, and then engaging the clutch to control a rate of deceleration of the crankshaft and stop the crankshaft within a calibrated range of a target stop position at the end of engine shut down. A method for controlling engine stop position includes detecting a commanded shut down of the engine, and engaging the clutch after detecting the commanded shut down to thereby control the rate of deceleration of the crankshaft and stop the crankshaft within a calibrated range of a target stop position at the end of shut down of the engine. The transmission may be automatic or it may be a dual-clutch transmission.

Engine position control in an engine stop-start powertrain

A control system for a vehicle that includes an engine includes an engine-stop module and a fuel control module. The engine-stop module determines whether to stop the engine based on at least one of input from a driver of the vehicle and vehicle operating parameters. The fuel control module stops the engine and controls a rate of engine speed decay by disabling fueling to cylinders of the engine according to a predetermined sequence.

Systems and methods for improved engine start-stop response

A control system for an engine includes a stop-start initiation module and a load control module. The stop-start initiation module shuts down the engine in response to an engine shutdown request. Control system and method for improving engine stop-start response time

A throttle control system employs redundant throttle signals in which faults may be detected so that control may continue using a non-faulted channel when one channel fails. Rehabilitation of the failed channel may occur when the fault condition ends, and changes in throttle setting based on that rehabilitation, are phased in gradually to prevent abrupt changes in vehicle operation. In this way, high availability and reliability are obtained.
