A device for delivering an implant (e.g., an embolic micro-coil) to a vascular disorder of a patient includes a delivery pusher, a moveable element, and first and second elongate members. The delivery pusher defines a lumen between its proximal and distal ends. The moveable element (e.g., a floating tube or a floating coil) defines a passageway therethrough and is disposed within the lumen of the delivery pusher. The first and second elongate members (e.g., core wires) are also disposed within the lumen of the delivery pusher. A portion of each elongate member passes through the passageway of the moveable element. Movement of the first elongate member in a first direction (e.g., retraction of the first elongate member from a locked to an unlocked configuration) causes a time-delayed or lost motion movement of the second elongate member in the same (i.e., first) direction, which releases the implant from the delivery pusher.

Devices and methods for delivering an implant to a vascular disorder

In various aspects, the invention relates to an embolic device for treating aneurysms or other vascular disorders that exhibits improved filling and/or neck blockage over conventional devices. As one example, the embolic device can include a structure that is wound into a spiral shape. In some cases, the spirally wound embolic device includes alternating narrow portions and link portions. As another example, the embolic device can be formed from a structure wound to form an infinity shape or, in some cases, multiple infinity shapes. In instances with multiple infinity shapes, the infinity shapes can be arranged either parallel or perpendicular to each other. In certain aspects, the embolic device can include two different embolic devices that are attached by an interconnect element, such that the two devices are attached but have independent freedom of motion when placed within a vascular disorder.

A device for delivering an implant to a vascular disorder of a patient includes a delivery pusher. A stationary blade may be coupled to the delivery pusher. The stationary blade may include a sharp and stationary cutting component for cutting through a suture coupling the implant to the delivery pusher and for thereby releasing the implant when placed in proximity to the vascular disorder. In some cases, the strength of a junction connecting the suture to the implant is equal to or greater than the tensile strength of the suture itself. Additionally, or alternatively, a detachment handle may be fixedly and permanently attached to the delivery pusher such that a user of the device need not couple the detachment handle to the delivery pusher. The detachment handle may include a user manipulable component for initiating a mechanical release of the implant when placed in proximity to the vascular disorder.

Implants, methods of manufacturing the same, and devices and methods for delivering the implants to a vascular disorder of a patient

An embolic microcoil can be formed into a complex shape for use in treating aneurysms and other vascular disorders. The microcoil features a distal portion including several loops that together comprise a substantially spherical shape, and an elongated proximal portion that is deployable within the distal portion. The distal portion can create a stable frame with adequate loop coverage across a neck of the aneurysm. The proximal portion can include a series of substantially omega-shaped loops, which can apply a force against the interior of the substantially spherical shaped distal portion, expanding it into apposition with additional portions of the aneurysm wall. Methods of treating vascular disorders and methods of manufacturing certain microcoils are also disclosed.

Stent delivery catheters comprising a hypotube, which may be a micromachined member, disposed on an outer portion of an inner member that may be an extruded multi-lumen member. The hypotube may be secured to the inner member. The devices may be adapted for delivering a self expanding stent by providing a restraining structure or device over the stent during delivery. One or more actuating members are provided through a lumen in the inner member to actuate the restraining structure and release the stent. Methods of use of such catheters are also described.
