A method to be performed in a computer system in association with initiating a physical operation includes receiving a request object that corresponds to a request to initiate a physical operation. The method includes generating, using the request object, an information collection object configured to represent performance of the physical operation. The method includes obtaining data generated in the performance of the physical operation and recording the data in the information collection object. A computer system includes a request management module configured to generate the request object upon receiving a request to initiate a physical operation, and an information collection module configured to generate the information collection object using the request object.

The method may comprise accessing a template database object that may be compatible with a modeled logistic environment process, and receiving a user assignment of defined attributes for the accessed template object. The defined attributes may describe a feature common to multiple different physical receptacles used to contain stock in a logistic environment or a feature common to contents of the receptacles. The generated logistic unit may be based on the template database object and the defined attributes, wherein the logistic unit is assignable to a stock item to define how the stock item is to be handled in the modeled logistic environment process.

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for monitoring specific areas of concern in warehouse operations. Information describing operations of a warehouse is stored in a database. Information is displayed on a user interface about an alert type and a category of alert types associated with that alert type, wherein a category of alert types is one of several classes of alert types. A user request for information about an alert type stored in the database is received. The requested information is retrieved from the database, in response to the request and the user interface is updated to display the requested information.
