Method for calibrating a nerve stimulation device comprising (a) providing the user with an initial stimulus at a sub-sensory level and obtaining feedback regarding whether the stimulus is felt; (b) if it is not felt, increasing the stimulation level by a first level variation and again obtaining feedback; (c) repeating the previous step until feeling the stimulus is reported; (d) reducing stimulus by the initial level variation; (e) repeating the process from the previously established level while using a second level variation is used which is smaller than the first level variation; (f) once stimulus feeling is reported, the level is again reduced by the second level variation; (g) this level, achieved after the second 'crossing' of the threshold, can be used as the sensory threshold value; (h) additional calibration rounds can be conducted using ever-lower level variations for each subsequent round to more accurately the sensory threshold is determined.

An electrostimulation device comprising an electrode coupler configured as an earbud, the earbud shaped to form fit inside an ear canal of a human ear and composed of a pliable material that conforms to the ear canal when inserted therein, the pliable material forming at least two electrostimulation electrodes, each electrostimulation electrode conductively connected to a conductive lead adapted to receive a nerve electrostimulation signal, and the earbud adapted to transmit the nerve electrostimulation signal through the electrostimulation electrodes from the conductive leads to tissue within the ear canal when disposed therein.

Transcutaneous electrostimulator and methods for electric stimulation

An electrostimulation device includes a computer generating an electrostimulation generator control signal and outputting a music signal, a transcutaneous electrostimulation generator, an electronic signal conduit, and an electrode coupler. The generator wirelessly receives the generator control signal and the music signal, generates a nerve electrostimulation signal dependent upon the generator control signal, and wirelessly outputs the nerve electrostimulation signal at the stimulation output and the music signal at an audio output. The coupler fits in an ear canal, has a speaker connected to the audio output to output the music signal into the ear canal when worn, and has electrostimulation electrodes wirelessly connected to the stimulation output through the electronic signal conduit to receive the nerve electrostimulation signal and positioned to contact tissue within the canal to transcutaneously apply the nerve electrostimulation signal thereto. The coupler supplies the nerve electrostimulation signal while music outputs from the speaker.

An electrostimulation device comprises a hand-held electrostimulation generator receiving an input music signal and providing at an output a nerve electrostimulation signal modulated by the music signal, an electronic signal conduit having conductive leads conductively connected to the output of the electrostimulation generator, and an electrode coupler comprising an earbud. The earbud is shaped to form fit inside an ear canal of a human ear and composed of a pliable material conforming to the ear canal when inserted therein, the pliable material forming at least two electrostimulation electrodes conductively connected to a respective one of the conductive leads of the electronic signal conduit to receive the nerve electrostimulation signal and transmitting the nerve electrostimulation signal to at least two different, electrically conductive exterior surface portions of the pliable material and transcutaneously applying the nerve electrostimulation signal from the conductive leads to tissue within the ear canal when disposed therein.

A transcutaneous electrostimulation device includes an electrostimulation generator providing at an output a nerve electro stimulation signal, an electronic signal conduit conductively connected to the output of the generator, and an electrode coupler shaped to form fit an ear canal of a human ear and having at least one electrostimulation electrode. The electrode is conductively connected to the electronic signal conduit to receive the nerve electrostimulation signal and is positioned at the electrode coupler to contact tissue within an ear canal and apply the nerve electrostimulation signal to the tissue transcutaneously. An audio source outputs audio signals. The electrode coupler has a speaker receiving the audio signals for output into the ear canal when the electrode coupler is worn. The generator sends the nerve electrostimulation signal to the electrode coupler while the audio signals are output. The generator modulates the nerve electrostimulation signal based upon the audio signals.
