Characterizing myocardial perfusion pathology includes analyzing a plurality of medical images of at least a portion of the heart of a subject of interest (), acquired in a consecutive manner by a medical imaging modality (). Intensities of selected myocardial image positions from the plurality of medical images are sampled and assigned an index representing an order of acquisition to the respective sampled intensities of the myocardial image positions to obtain intensity curves (). An index number () indicative of a spatio-temporal perfusion inhomogeneity or perfusion dephasing among at least a subset of myocardial segments of the plurality of myocardial segments is calculated, based on the obtained intensity curves ().

System and method for myocardial perfusion pathology characterization

A system for generating a processed image dataset is disclosed. The system comprises a plurality of parameter datasets (), wherein a parameter dataset () corresponds to a clinically categorized population and represents a transfer function. The system further comprises a selector () for selecting a parameter dataset () from the plurality of parameter datasets (). The system further comprises an image processing subsystem () for applying the transfer function represented by the selected parameter dataset () to at least part of an image dataset () specific for a patient, to obtain a processed image dataset (). The selector () comprises a user interface element () for enabling a user to select the parameter dataset () from the plurality of parameter datasets (). A parameter dataset () is based on a statistical distribution of a population characteristic.

Processing an image dataset based on clinically categorized populations

A system () for analyzing a sequence of datasets representing sequential images of an object, a dataset associating data values with positions, the images having an image region having a first border () and a second border () associated with the object, the system comprising a ray establishing means () for establishing for individual images an analysis ray () connecting the first and second border of the image region, the analysis rays being in a respective position representing a substantially same position with respect to the object, a gradient establishing means () for establishing, for individual analysis rays, a gradient value which is representative of a rate of change in the data values across the image region and along the analysis ray from the first border to the second border. The system is well suited to locate perfusion deficits in the myocardium through the identification of transmural gradients.
