An iosolation valve usable with an adaptive braking/traction control system comprising a plurality of passages adapted to communicate to a variety of pressure sources and an outlet port adapted to communicate to at least one brake cylinder. A valve movable to open and close one or the other of opposingly situated first and second passages to alternately communicate a master cylinder to the outlet port or a second pressure source to the outlet port so that when the first passage is closed by the valve the brake master cylinder is isolated from the brake cylinder.

A hydraulic fluid system including a master cylinder (30) moved by a clutch pedal (34) for pressurizing a remotely located slave cylinder (50). The slave cylinder and master cylinder each including a rolling diaphragm (104, 176). The slave cylinder further including a cup-shaped piston (134) for isolating its rolling diaphragm from the rotation of a throw-out bearing (66) which is moved by the diaphragm.

Hydraulic clutch activation system

An electric power assisted steering system for a automotive vehicle having a torque shaft connecting the vehicle's steering wheel with the vehicle's steering mechanism. Rotary power is applied to the output end of the torque shaft by a low speed, high torque electrical motor through a low gear ratio planetary gear system disposed concentrically about the torque shaft. The electric motor is energized by a power amplifier in response to a torque signal generated by a torque sensor responsive to the magnitude and direction of the torque applied between the input and output ends of the torque shaft. The power amplifier has an antilog gain characteristic eliminating the need for a vehicle speed input to reduce or eliminate the authority of the power steering mechanism a nominal and higher vehicle speeds.

A glow plug for a compression ignited or Diesel engine having a base member, an axial electrode and a heater member. The heater member comprising a conductive surface film heater element disposed on the surface of a dielectric substrate. The surface film heater element having one end of electrical contact with the base member and the other end in electrical contact with the axial electrode.

Electrical power assisted steering mechanism

A solenoid actuated combined fuel injection and intake valve supplies an air-fuel mixture to an electronic fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine. In one embodiment of the invention fuel injection is controlled dependent upon the operation of an auxiliary air-fuel intake valve while in another embodiment of the invention fuel injection is controlled independent of the operation of the auxiliary valve.
