An electroacoustic transducer for converting electrical input signals into acoustic output signals includes a diaphragm adapted to move relative to a housing in response to the electrical input signals to produce the acoustic output signals, a displacement sensor, a bias voltage source, and an amplifier. The displacement sensor includes a first electrode adhered to the diaphragm and a second electrode on a first surface of the housing located proximate to the first electrode. A capacitance between the first electrode and the second electrode varies with a displacement of the diaphragm relative to the housing. The bias voltage source is coupled to at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode and provides a fixed charge to the electrode to which it is attached. The amplifier amplifies a change in voltage between the first and second electrodes to produce an output voltage between first and second signal outputs.

An active suspension system for a motor vehicle, in which a controller has a first input and an output. The first input receives a roll command-signal generated in response to a turn executed by the vehicle. The output provides a control signal for causing a chassis of the vehicle to roll to an angle determined by the turn.

A vibration reducing apparatus comprising, a baffle subject to vibration, a first electroacoustical transducer characterized by a first mass seated in the baffle, a second electromechanical transducer mechanically connected to said first transducer or said baffle in the vicinity of the periphery of the first transducer. The rear sides of the diaphragms of the first and the second transducer are not connected to the listening area. The first transducer and the second transducer are constructed and arranged to receive a common electrical signal so that the movable element in the first transducer and the movable element in the second transducer move in phase opposition in response to the common electrical signal to significantly reduce the vibrating force imparted to the baffle.

An automatic dynamic equalization circuit has a potentiometer having a tap shunted by an active resonator circuit including a capacitor shunted by an active circuit presenting a high Q inductive reactance that is resonant at substantially 50 Hz and provides essentially no boost in the middle range of frequencies above 150 Hz with roll-off below about 45 Hz.

Diversity reception apparatus includes a number of receivers each having a distortion detector. There is a common output channel. A comparator compares the signals detected by detectors and provides a control signal to a selector or switching circuit that couples that receiver having the preferred received signal to the common output channel.

A vehicle radio receiver circuit includes two antennas for mounting on the vehicle. The antennas are significantly less than one quarter of a wavelength in length at the desired frequency of operation, and the outputs of the antenna elements are coupled to two inputs of an FM circuit and two inputs of an AM circuit, which includes summing circuitry. The FM circuit has an FM output for providing a received FM signal, and the AM circuit has an output for providing an AM signal that includes a sum of signals derived from the outputs of the antennas.

A variable gain amplifier receives an input electrical audio signal and has its gain controlled by a vehicle speed signal representative of the vehicle speed. The signal provided by the variable gain amplifier is coupled to a manually set volume control that is coupled to a power amplifier that drives a loudspeaker. According to a specific form of the invention the manually set volume control is an element in a dynamic equalization circuit that alters the equalization in the bass frequency region typically below 200 Hz in accordance with the setting of the control to provide more boost at lower settings of the volume control.

Speed-controlled amplifying

A receiver for receiving an amplitude modulated signal with upper and lower sidebands, comprising: an independent sideband decoder for providing demodulated upper and lower sideband audio signals, a combiner for differentially combining the upper and lower sideband audio signals to provide a noise signal, a quality detector apparatus for providing upper and lower quality signals representative of undesired noise in the upper and lower sideband audio signals respectively, and a selector responsive to the quality signals for processing the upper and lower sideband audio signals to provide an output audio signal with reduced noise. The quality detector includes a correlator for correlating the noise and audio signal in the associated sideband to provide the quality signals. In another aspect of the invention, the receiver also comprises a plurality of band-pass filters for selectively transmitting spectral components of the upper and lower sideband audio signals in contiguous frequency bands, a corresponding plurality of said combiners, and a summer for summing the output audio signals provided by said selectors. The quality detectors and the selectors are associated with a respective band pass filter.

A vehicle has an engine and a sound amplifying system characterized by a frequency response including a signal source and a manually operable sound level setting control that establishes the sound level of the desired signal in the vehicle, a power amplifier and an electroacoustical transducer. The manually operable sound level setting control comprises a dynamic equalization circuit for providing a predetermined equalization over the bass frequency range depending on the sound level setting of the sound level setting control. A variable gain device associated with the sound level setting control responds to an input electrical audio signal to be amplified by the system for providing a signal of controlled amplitude. The variable gain device controls the gain of the system to increase and decrease in response to the engine being on and off respectively. The manually operable sound level setting control changes the frequency response of the system when altering the gain of the system much more significantly than when the variable gain device alters the gain such that the frequency response with the engine being on is always different from the frequency response with the engine being off.

Speed controlled amplifying

Apparatus demodulates frequency-modulated information signals on a radio frequency signal carrying on a suppressed superaudio carrier signal, amplitude-modulated spectral components in a subcarrier channel frequency range above the audio frequency range and frequency modulated spectral components within the audio range. A demodulator demodulates the frequency-modulated information signals to provide detected audio signals having spectral components within the audio frequency range and detected superaudio signals having spectral components including those within the subcarrier channel frequency range above the audio frequency range in response to modulated radiated radio frequency signals arriving at the apparatus over a number of paths of different lengths. There is a reference signal source responsive to the detected superaudio signals that provides a reference signal of the frequency of the suppressed subcarrier characterized by a phase shift substantially the same as that imparted to the detected spectral components within the subcarrier channel frequency range. The reference signal is combined with the detected spectral components within the subcarrier channel frequency range to provide an audio signal.
