The system can determine pronunciation information during conversion and generate metadata that indicates a pronunciation of one or more words of the query, include phonetic information in the text query, or both. A query includes one or more entities that may be more accurately identified based on pronunciation. The system searches for information, content, or both among one or more databases based on the generated text query, pronunciation information, user profile information, search histories or trends, and optionally other information. The system identifies one or more entities or content items that match the text query, and retrieves the identified information to provide to the user.

Systems and methods for managing voice queries using pronunciation information

Systems and methods for generating media program keywords based on a video-hosting website are disclosed herein. Control circuitry identifies, on the video-hosting website, video content items that include at least a portion of a media program. The media program has a media program identifier and the video content items have respective titles, each including one or more terms. The control circuitry identifies a term included in more than one of the titles and identifies a group of the video content items that have the term included in their title. Based on the video-hosting website, the control circuitry determines a cumulative number of rankings of the video content items within the group and generates a relevance score for the term based on the cumulative number of rankings. The control circuitry stores the term and the relevance score in a keyword database in association with the media program identifier.

Methods and systems for calculating, storing, and allowing electronic searches for metadata associated with media titles. The metadata includes scores specific to each actor and each genre of a media title, where the scores indicate the degree to which an actor's performance in that title corresponds to a particular genre. Electronic searches for particular actors' performance in a specific genre thus return more accurate results that more correctly reflect how well the actors' performances reflect that genre.

The system and methods described herein provided storyline summaries of missed content to users timed to reduce interruptions of content. A summary application detects missed content, that comprises a plurality of storylines. The summary application also identifies a storyline of current content being generated for presentation and retrieves a storyline-specific summary of a portion of the missed content comprising the current storyline. Methods and systems are described for providing content, such as a movie, with dialogue including a quotation that was input. For example, using a voice search a viewer may input a quotation famous from a movie to find the original fil and related content. The methods and systems use a quotation engine in a digital device to receive an input including the quotation and access a plurality of content items that include dialogue. The quotation engine identifies a subset of content items that include dialogue similar to the input quotation. The quotation engine accesses metadata of each of the subset of content, ranks the subset based on predetermined criteria and the metadata, and provides the ranked subset of the plurality of content items for consumption. The quotation engine may use a graphical user interface to identify the earliest release, trending content, or the program best known for the quote.

Systems and methods for providing content relevant to a quotation

Systems and methods are described herein for disambiguating a voice search query that contains a command keyword by determining whether the user spoke a quotation from a content item and whether the user mimicked or approximated the way the quotation is spoken in the content item. The voice search query is transcribed into a string, and an audio signature of the voice search query is identified. Metadata of a quotation matching the string is retrieved from a database that includes audio signature information for the string as spoken within the content item. The audio signature of the voice search query is compared with the audio signature information in the metadata to determine whether the audio signature matches the audio signature information in the quotation metadata. If a match is detected, then a search result comprising an identifier of the content item from which the quotation comes is generated.

Systems and methods for disambiguating a voice search query

Systems and methods are described for generating metadata for a media asset. The system retrieves an associated first metadata item for a media asset, where the first metadata item includes a first label field and an associated first data field. The system tries to fill in the first data field by looking it up in a remote database. If the remote database lacks data needed to fill in the first data field, the system generates a natural language request and publishes it to a plurality of users. The system analyzes a plurality of replies received in response to the published request to identify a text segment that is common to at least some of the replies. The system fills in the first data field with the identified text segment.

Methods and systems for updating metadata of a media asset

Systems and methods are provided for presenting an interactive content item matching a user-selected category to a user for a desired duration. A user selects a category and selects a first interactive content item on a media system. The system calculates a total duration of a storyline from the selected interactive content item that matches the selected category (e.g., a genre 'comedy') and compares the calculated duration to a desired predetermined duration for which the user wishes to watch the selected show. If the system determines, for instance, that the total duration of the selected storyline is less than the predetermined duration, the system identifies scenes from another show and interleaves them with scenes from the first interactive content item to generate a combined interactive content item that satisfies the user viewing preferences.

Systems and methods for displaying interactive content item for a predetermined duration

Systems and methods are described herein for causing to be provided contextual information for a content item. The system identifies that a subject in a content item is currently being referenced and determines whether consumption of the content item could be enhanced based on the referenced subject. For example, the system identifies a king being discussed by characters in a television series and determines the king was referenced three months ago. The system determines, based on the last time the subject was referenced, whether to provide contextual information about the subject. Using the determined three-month lapse in time since the king was last referenced, the system determines that contextual information about the king should be provided. Accordingly, the system causes to be displayed the contextual information within closed captioning after determining contextual information should be provided.
