A method provides techniques for detecting, by a controller of an electronic device, where the electronic device comprises a device housing, a blade assembly carrying a blade and a flexible display and slidably coupled to the device housing, a translation mechanism operable to slide the blade assembly relative to the device housing to a plurality of positions between an extended position and a retracted position, and the controller communicatively coupled to the blade assembly and the translation mechanism, a force event acting on the translation mechanism. The method further includes detecting a force direction associated with the force event, and performing at least one action on the electronic device in response to detecting the force event and the associated force direction.

Triggering gesture events for user-applied forces on a flexible display unit

An electronic device, method, and computer program product expedite authentication of a user by capturing a palmprint, without necessarily requiring a dedicated user action. The electronic device monitors for detection of an image via a palmprint scanner, positioned by a translation mechanism, in response to identifying a requirement to authenticate the user. The translation mechanism slides a blade assembly relative to the device housing between extended and retracted positions. The blade assembly includes a blade, a flexible display, and the palmprint scanner sized to cover at least a portion of a back side of the device housing for receiving the palmprint while the blade assembly is at least in the retracted position. The electronic device authenticates the user in response to identifying a palmprint in the image corresponding to an authorized user and presents visual content via the flexible display positioned on a front side of the display housing.

Palmprint scanning for rollable display device

An electronic device, method, and computer program product provide a predictable external finger area on a 'rollable display device' for fingerprint authentication that is dynamically aligned to a fixed finger location on a device housing of the electronic device. The electronic device has a translation mechanism operable to position with a blade assembly having a flexible display that retracts to reduce size of the electronic device for carrying or stowing. The transmission extends the blade assembly to increase display area of a flexible display on a front side of a device housing of the electronic device. A fingerprint scanner that moves with the flexible display is sized to capture a fingerprint at a fixed finger area on a device housing of the electronic device for each position of the blade assembly between the retract position and the extended position. The fingerprint of a user is used to authenticate the user.

An electronic device, a method and a computer program product mitigate inadvertent touch activations of a translating flexible display of the electronic device by maintaining presentation of a user interface content on a visual output layer of the flexible display in a smaller sized user interface (i.e., retracted user interface) among first and second user interfaces during repositioning of the flexible display. Association is maintained for interface control(s) at the touch input layer that correspond to the user interface content to avoid refreshing of the user interface content and thereby to mitigate inadvertent touch activation of a user interface control during the repositioning of the flexible display.

In aspects of wireless connectivity information for a mobile device, a mobile device includes a connectivity module that determines that the mobile device is to wirelessly connect to a network. The connectivity module of the mobile device queries for a host device to provide wireless connectivity information, such as via a direct device-to-device query between the mobile device and the host device. The mobile device receives a query response from the host device, and the connectivity module obtains wireless connectivity information from the query response. The connectivity module utilizes the connectivity information to perform a focused scan for a network, such as a network identified in the query response. In response to detecting the network based on the focused scan, the connectivity module interacts with the network to establish a wireless connection between the mobile device and the network.
