Placement of instances of virtual machine (VM) images in a cloud computing environment is optimized. A request is received to deploy a new VM image instance. VM resource usage profiles are read that indicate predicted resource consumption data of the VM image. Resource pool profiles for multiple resource pools are read that indicate predicted resource consumption data for the resource pools. For each of the resource pools, the VM resource usage profile is aligned with the respective resource pool profile. An aggregated resource consumption profile is calculated as an aggregation of the predicted resource consumptions of the aligned profiles. A determination is made of one of multiple resource pools with the least predicted aggregated resource consumption, and the VM image is instantiated on the determined one of the multiple resource pools with the least predicted aggregated resource consumption over time.

Optimizing virtual machines placement in cloud computing environments

Placement of instances of virtual machine (VM) images in a cloud computing environment is optimized. A request is received to deploy a new VM image instance. User-specific and generic VM resource usage profiles are read that include resource consumption data. Resource pool profiles for multiple resource pools are read that include resource consumption data for the resource pools. For each of the resource pool profiles, a selected VM resource usage profile is analyzed and aligned with the resource pool profiles. An aggregated resource consumption profile is calculated. A determination is made of one of multiple resource pools with the least aggregated resource consumption.

A method, computer program product and system for improving the localization of a wireless communication device within an area covered by a transceiver infrastructure includes triggering the wireless communication device to emit a positioning signal. A positioning signal is received from the wireless communication device by a further wireless communication device at a known position within the area covered by the transceiver infrastructure. The transceiver infrastructure includes at least three transceivers. A forwarding positioning signal is transmitted from the further wireless communication device to at least one of the transceivers. The wireless communication device is located based on the forwarding positioning signal.

Localization of a wireless communication device

A zone shaping method and system. The method comprises receiving by a computing system from a sensory infrastructure transmitter attached to an object data associated with the first object. The object is located within a zone area. The computing system calculates a location within the zone area for the object. The computing system receives first environmental data associated with a first environmental condition in the zone area from a first sensor. The computing system analyzes the data, the location, and the first environmental data. The computing system generates based on results of the analysis, a first modified zone area associated with the zone area.

Zone boundary adjustment method and system

The invention provides an approach for automatic and dynamic mapping of zone boundaries for position-determination systems. The system of the present invention utilizes beacons ('position determining devices') to identify the boundaries and limits of device area coverage ('zone') for tracking objects with a position-determination system. Beacons, used both to identify zone boundaries and to tag assets to be tracked, are distributed within the zone. The beacon locations are then detected and displayed in the visualization application. Three or more beacons may be linked together, either manually or automatically, to establish a detection zone. Using beacons to establish detection zone boundaries eliminates guesswork and its associated errors, and produces a zone boundary that is actually valid. In an improvement over present systems, greater accuracy is assured using zone-defining beacons, because if a beacon is unintentionally placed in an area unavailable to the position-determination system, that beacon will not appear in the visualization application display, and thus will not be available to create an incorrect zone representation.
