A method of treating in a subterranean formation including placing a corrosion inhibitor composition into a subterranean formation, where the formation includes an acidic environment having a pH of about 5 or below, where the composition includes: an organic solvent comprising an alcohol with a flash point of at least about 75&#xb0; C.; a nitrogen containing compound; an aqueous acid solution comprising HCl; and contacting a metal surface with the corrosion inhibitor composition. A corrosion inhibitor composition includes an organic solvent comprising an alcohol with a flash point of at least about 75&#xb0; C.; a nitrogen containing compound; and an aqueous acid solution comprising HCl.

Corrosion inhibition of HCL treatment fluids with environmentally compatible solvent

Certain metal surfaces are often unable to be contacted effectively with fluids containing hydrofluoric acid due to significant corrosion issues. Steel surfaces represent but one example. Corrosion inhibitor compositions comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof can be used to suppress corrosion of steel surfaces, including those that contain multiple types or grades of steel. Methods for suppressing corrosion of a steel surface can comprise: contacting a steel surface with a corrosive environment, the corrosive environment comprising hydrofluoric acid; exposing the steel surface to a corrosion inhibitor composition, the corrosion inhibitor composition comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof; and suppressing corrosion of the steel surface being contacted with the corrosive environment through exposure to the corrosion inhibitor composition.

Methods and systems for suppressing corrosion of steel surfaces

Removing inorganic scale and other acid-soluble materials in the presence of a particulate pack can sometimes result in unwanted alterations to the particulate pack. Methods for removing inorganic scale can comprise: introducing a descaling agent comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof into a wellbore in fluid communication with a particulate pack, an inorganic scale being present in the wellbore or in the particulate pack; contacting the descaling agent with the particulate pack and the inorganic scale; and removing at least a portion of the inorganic scale using the N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof without substantially affecting the particulate pack.

Extraneous metal ions in a source of water can often make the water unsuitable for use as the continuous phase of an aqueous fracturing fluid. Extraneous metal ions can be a particular issue for produced water and other process water sources. Methods for treating water and forming a fracturing fluid therefrom can comprise: providing a metal-laden water comprising a quantity of one or more metal ions; combining an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or a salt thereof with the metal-laden water to form a remediated water, the remediated water comprising the N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid, the salt thereof, a metal complex thereof or a combination thereof; and formulating the remediated water into a fracturing fluid comprising a gelled polymer.

Methods and systems for forming a fracturing fluid from a source of metal-laden water

Chelating agents may be used to mitigate the presence of metal ions in a subterranean formation, thereby decreasing the likelihood of the metal ions forming damaging insoluble compounds within the subterranean formation. Methods for treating a subterranean formation can comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising an aqueous carrier fluid and a chelating agent comprising hydroxyiminodisuccinic acid or any salt thereof; introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation comprising a carbonate mineral; and complexing a metal ion in the subterranean formation with the chelating agent.

Methods and systems for stimulating a subterranean formation containing a carbonate mineral

Inadvertent or unavoidable contact of an acid with an acid-reactive substance may preclude the acid's use in another location where its reactivity is more desired. Excessive reactivity of acids toward acid-reactive substances may lead to undesired effects such as surface erosion, matrix deconsolidation, scaling, and the like. Methods for protecting an acid-reactive surface from excessive reaction may comprise: depositing a protective coating comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof onto an acid-reactive surface; and contacting a mineral acid or an organic acid with the protective coating without substantially reacting the acid-reactive surface.

Methods and systems for protecting acid-reactive substances

Treatment fluids comprising methane sulfonic acid (MSA) and fully protonated N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid (PMIDA) solubilized in the MSA. Methods including introducing the treatment fluids into a wellbore in a subterranean formation comprising acid-soluble material at a first treatment interval, and reacting the MSA and the PMIDA in the treatment fluid with the acid-soluble material at a temperature in the range of about 65&#xb0; C. to about 210&#xb0; C., wherein the reacting removes the acid-soluble material, thereby forming conductive channels in the subterranean formation.
