The invention provides a polymer providing soil release properties (also termed a 'soil release polymer' or SRP) when incorporated in a laundry detergent composition, the polymer comprising a capped polyoxyalkylene end block connected to a polyester segment; the polyester segment comprising alternating &#x2014;B-A-B&#x2014; and &#x2014;R&#x2014; units; in which Band Bare each independently selected from &#x2014;OC(O)&#x2014; and &#x2014;C(O)O&#x2014; groups; A is a 2,5-furanylene ring and R is a divalent alkylene radical. The polymer provides good compatibility, stability and cleaning performance when incorporated into a laundry detergent composition, preferably a liquid laundry detergent composition, comprising one or more detersive surfactants.

Soil release polymers and laundry detergent compositions containing them

A method of laundering articles, the method comprising combining a detergent composition and water to provide a detergent solution, wherein the detergent composition comprises a surfactant system containing at least 40 wt % linear alkylbenzene sulfonate(s), then introducing into a washing machine basket the detergent solution so as to dampen articles in the basket; and then waiting for a duration of time during which no water or further detergent solution is added to the basket containing the dampened articles.

Methods and compositions

A method of laundering articles, the method comprising combining a detergent composition and water to provide a detergent solution, wherein the detergent composition comprises a surfactant system containing a betaine, then introducing into a washing machine basket the detergent solution so as to dampen articles in the basket; and then waiting for a duration of time during which no water or further detergent solution is added to the basket containing the dampened articles.

Laundry liquid composition comprising a polyester/butyl glycol/water active blend

An alkaline liquid laundry detergent composition comprising at least 1 wt % triethanolamine, at least 5 wt % non-soap surfactant and at least 0.5 wt % of a polyester according to the following formula (I) wherein R1 and R2 independently of one another are X&#x2014;(OC2H4)n-(OC3H6)m wherein X is Calkyl, the &#x2014;(OC2H4) groups and the &#x2014;(OC3H6) groups are arranged blockwise and the block consisting of the &#x2014;(OC3H6) groups is bound to a COO group or are HO&#x2014;(C3H6), n is based on a molar average a number of from 12 to 120, preferably 40 to 50, m is based on a molar average a number of from 1 to 10, and a is based on a molar average a number of from 4 to 9. The inventive compositions comprise polyesters that have an advantageous stability in their alkaline environment and also possess advantageous soil release properties. 

Alkaline liquid laundry detergent compositions comprising polyesters

The invention provides a method of laundering fabric which uses a pourable liquid detergent composition comprising 10-40% wt of surfactant, essentially consisting of nonionic and/or anionic surfactant (typically less than 90% wt LAS and at least 10% wt of nonionic surfactant) in which 10-40% wt of surfactant preferably passes the Calcium Tolerance Test described in the patent. The composition comprises no more than 15% wt of soap, (present as a minority in wt % terms of the total surfactant). In the method, the composition is diluted by a factor of greater than 500 to obtain a wash liquor which comprises 0.8-0.05 g/l of surfactant, and, the wash liquor is contacted with fabrics. The composition may further comprise one or more of and preferably combinations of lipase, polyethyleneimine, a blue violet dye, preferably with an optical adsorption peak in the range 540-600 nm, a fluorescer, a dye transfer inhibition polymer, a polycarboxylate anti-redeposition agent, a soil release polymer and a perfume (preferably encapsulated).

Methods and compositions for fabric cleaning

The present invention relates to use of a compound for promoting antiredeposition during laundering of a textile fabric, in which the compound is a polymer comprising a polysaccharide backbone substituted by one or more groups -L-R, where L represents an ester, amide or ether linkage and R represents an anionic alkyl group or a salt thereof, which has a degree of substitution of from 0.005 to 1 and a degree of biodegradation of at least 60% in 28 days. The use of such polymers in the manufacture of a laundry cleaning composition is also provided as well as laundry cleaning compositions containing such polymers.

Polymers for laundry applications

The present invention provides a laundry detergent composition, a process for making said composition, the use of the composition in a laundry detergent and a method for treating fabric with the composition. Said laundry detergent compositions comprise a polyaspartate derivative modified with at least two hydrophilic groups, one of which is a charged hydrophilic group, surfactant and optionally other ingredients.

Incorporation in a laundry detergent composition of a graft polymer having a locust bean gum backbone and grafts of an aromatic sulphonic acid improves antiredeposition properties. The preferred polymer is locust bean gum&#x2014;graft&#x2014;poly (4-styrenesulphonic acid).
