A hearing device such as a receiver-in-ear assembly. The assembly includes a housing having a cavity extending through the housing; an optical transducer mounted in the cavity within a thickness of the housing, the optical transducer being mounted on a circuit board layer such that a spacing exists between a side of the optical transducer and a sidewall of the cavity. The circuit board layer extends underneath the housing and touching the housing such that the optical transducer is held within the cavity without touching the housing. The assembly further includes a protective substance forming a shield over the optical transducer and the cavity, the protective substance configured to affect a field of view of the optical transducer.

A hearing aid module includes an elongated housing, an optical sensor module within the housing, an audio driver positioned within the housing adjacent the optical sensor module, and first and second light guides positioned near the audio driver. The module has a rectangular configuration with opposite first and second sides, opposite third and fourth sides, and opposite first and second ends. The first and second sides each include an opening. An ear tip is coupled to the housing first end and is configured to retain the module within the auditory canal. The first light guide guides light from an optical emitter through the opening in the housing first side and into skin of the auditory canal in a non-line of sight manner. The second light guide collects light from the skin of the auditory canal and directs the collected light to an optical detector in a non-line of sight manner.

An assembly of at least one radiation detector, at least one radiation emitter and a housing configured to be positioned inside the ear canal of a person or animal, the detector(s) and emitter(s) being provided in or on the housing, the emitter(s) being configured to emit radiation away from the housing and the detector(s) being configured to receive radiation directed toward the housing. No overlap may be provided between the field of view of the radiation detector(s) and the emitter(s), such as by providing a blocking element.

An assembly of a receiver and a microphone, such as for positioning in an ear canal of a person. The receiver and microphone are provided in an overlapping relationship to take up less space while being able to emit sound in one direction and receive sound from that direction. When the assembly if for use deep inside the ear canal of a person, the microphone may be very small, as it is exposed to very high sound levels.

The invention relates to a transducer comprising a housing, a first and a second diaphragm, and a first and a second signal provider. The housing comprises an inner surface. The first and second diaphragms are positioned in the housing. The first and second diaphragms define a common compartment being delimited by at least both a part of the inner surface and the first and second diaphragms. The first signal provider is configured to convert movement of the first diaphragm into a first signal. The second signal provider is configured to convert movement of the second diaphragm into a second signal. The transducer can be used in a hearing aid.

A receiver is disclosed for use in listening devices, such as hearing aids. The receiver comprises an electromagnetic drive assembly that includes a bobbin having a coil of conductive wire formed thereon. The bobbin is capable of compensating for the deflections on the armature that may be caused by shock. The bobbin is also capable of centering an armature leg within the coil.

The invention concerns a method of receiving and processing both audio and non-audio signals for use in a hearing aid or other listening device comprising converting electromagnetic radiation to electrical signals, amplifying said electrical signals to produce amplified signals, and filtering the amplified signals in an audio frequency range. The invention extends to a novel integrated amplified telecoil system for carrying out the method.

A microphone for converting sound into an electrical signal includes a generally cylindrical housing including an inlet for receiving sound, an inner backplate, and an outer backplate. The inner and outer backplates are generally cylindrical and substantially concentric with each other. A cylindrical membrane is disposed between the inner and outer backplates. The membrane divides an interior of said housing into a front volume and a back volume. The front volume is in direct communication with the inlet. The backplates and/or membrane are charged. Electronics are included for detecting movement of the membrane relative to the inner and outer backplates in response to the membrane moving when subjected to the sound. The backplates and membrane may be of a shape that approximates a cylinder, such as those that have a hexagonal or octagonal cross-section.
