Female fiber optic connectors having a connection port opening for receiving a fiber optic plug and cable assemblies comprising the female fiber optic connector along with methods of making the same. The female fiber optic connectors comprise an actuator such as a rocker latch arm used for releasing or securing an external fiber optic plug that may be received in the connection port. A main barrel of the female fiber optic connector comprises a connection port suitable for receiving an external fiber optic plug connector. The female fiber optic connectors disclosed advantageously allow for an quick and easy connection with an external fiber optic plug connector for ruggedized or other desired applications. Methods for terminating the optical fibers of a cable to the female fiber optic connector for forming cable assemblies are also disclosed.

Female fiber optic connectors having a rocker latch arm and methods of making the same

Optical cable assemblies having filler optical fibers and methods of fabricating the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical cable assembly includes an optical cable, a plurality of filler optical fibers, and a ferrule. The optical cable includes an outer jacket and a plurality of active optical fibers disposed within the outer jacket, wherein the plurality of active optical fibers extend beyond an end of the outer jacket. Each filler optical fiber includes a first end and second end. The first end is secured to an outer surface of the outer jacket by a securing member for improving mechanical performance of the assembly. The ferrule includes an array of openings. Ends of the plurality of active optical fibers are disposed within a first subset of openings of the array of openings and the second ends of the plurality of filler optical fibers are disposed within a second subset of openings of the array of openings and are suitable for transmitting optical signals.

Optical cable assemblies having filler optical fibers and methods of fabricating the same

A fiber optic cable assembly for terminating a cable using an interior seal component in a passage of a retention body and methods for making the same. The interior seal component inhibits a bonding material from passing through to unintended portions of the retention body, and also serves to position the cable within the retention body during termination. Embodiments may include an optional end seal for inhibiting the bonding agent from escaping the retention body.

Fiber optic cable assemblies for terminating a fiber optic cable and methods of making the same

Methods for cleaving an optical fiber that extends from a ferrule are provided herein. The ferrule can be aligned on a first side of a scribe wire and an unconstrained end of the optical fiber on a second side of the scribe wire. Tension can be applied to the scribe wire with the optical fiber. Relative motion between the scribe wire and the optical fiber can be caused, while the tension is applied with the optical fiber. The scribe wire and the optical fiber can be separated. A fiber optic shard can be cleaved from the optical fiber. The fiber optic shard may include the unconstrained end of the optical fiber.

Methods and devices for cleaving optical fibers

A laser cleaving system includes a laser and a fixture including holders for respectively holding optical fiber ribbons at different angular positions. The fixture is rotatable relative to the laser for facilitating serial cleaving of the optical fiber ribbons. The fixture is configured for holding the ribbons in a predetermined manner so that the cleaved optical surfaces are of high quality and coplanar, such as when installed in a ferrule. For example, the fixture separates the ends of the ribbons from one another so that the ribbons being held by the fixture may be cleaved substantially independently from one another.

Laser cleaving multi-row ribbon fibers

Cables are constructed a jacket having an inner section within the cable jacket that facilitates access to the cable core, and which can be removed at the end of the cable during connectorization. The inner section is removed at the end of the cable to create a cavity in which fiber(s) in the cable core can buckle during connectorization to reduce strain on the fibers.
