An apparatus for removing a press-fit pin from a bore in an article, such as a press-fit pin in aligned bores of a cam dog for a railway brake apparatus. The apparatus has a pair of spaced jaws, moveable towards each other, one of the jaws having a peg extending outwardly therefrom and towards the other jaw, while the other jaw preferably has a groove in the end. Upon placement of an article on one jaw, and movement of the jaws together, the peg forces at least a portion of the press-fit pin from the bore and into the groove. The press-fit pin can then be grasped at the exposed portion and removed from the bore.

An inlet valve reconditioning process is disclosed which includes soaking the inlet valve, as removed from a valve body, in a cleaning solution for a period of time sufficient to loosen foreign material from all exposed surfaces of the valve, disassembling the valve into its component parts, cleaning the various component parts with the cleaning solution, reaming cavities formed in the male and female members of the valve, cleaning the valve seat, relapping the valve stem and reassembling the inlet valve into the valve body. The valve can be reused for its intended purposes within such a valve body without loss of either efficiency or durability.

Method of reconditioning valves

A valve bushing cleaning device for cleaning a valve bushing while the bushing is situated in a valve bore of a valve body, such as in a railway vehicle brake apparatus and a method for cleaning such valve bushing. The cleaning device comprises a hollow cylindrical conduit having a first open end attachable to a source of pressurized fluid and a second closed end. The conduit has a recessed portion with fluid passageways through the wall thereof and structure for securing a sealing member on each side of the fluid passageways. In the method, the closed end of the cleaning device is inserted into a valve bushing disposed in a valve bore of a valve body, with pressurized fluid forced through the conduit, out of the fluid passageways, and through apertures in the valve bushing, with any solids picked up and carried by the fluid through passages formed in the valve body.

Method of cleaning valve bushings

A valve spring housing for use in an adjustable regulating valve device of a railway locomotive brake valve has a cylindrical body with first, second and third sections. The first section has an outer cylindrical surface of a uninterrupted curvature, which first section can be threadedly secured to a valve pin housing, a recess to accept the end of a spiral spring, and a first flange extending radially outwardly therefrom. The second section has a convex surface on the end thereof and a second flange extending radially outwardly therefrom. The intermediate section is disposed between the first and second flanges and seats a sealing member between the flanges. A torquing tool acceptor, such as a transverse passageway is provided on the second section to enable threaded securement of the valve spring housing to a valve pin housing of a valve pin assembly in assembling the adjustable regulating valve device.

Valve bushing cleaning device and method of cleaning valve bushings

A valve restoration process including the steps of disassembling the valve into its component parts, applying a cleaning solution to a choke portion, a spring retainer portion, a body portion, a valve seat portion and a valve stem portion of such valve and thereafter cleaning these portions with a brush to remove extraneous foreign material therefrom. Thereafter removing such cleaning solution and relapping such valve stem portion to such valve seat portion to insure a good sealing surface. Finally, removing the lapping component from each of such valve stem and such valve seat and reassembling such valve.
