A mixture containing solid and liquid components is saturated with a polyelectrolyte compound, over-flocculating the solids contained therein and causing the solids to coalesce into masses or globules. These coalesced masses may then be separated from the liquid component, yielding substantially separated phases.

Method for separating intermixed solids and liquids

A mobile, self-contained, self-powered three stage apparatus is disclosed for separating solids from a liquid. Three stack separator pods are mounted over a housing on a mobile platform. A plurality of hydrocyclones are readily mounted with respect to the separator pods to provide for separating the solidds therewithin. Each successive separator pod contains a greater number of smaller diameter hydrocyclone so as to enable the separation of smaller diameter of particles. Each separator pod also includes degassing capabilities. A plurality of holding tanks act as reservoirs for the fluid and solid mixture prior to and subsequent to each separator pod. A system of internal weirs allows overflow of liquids from a holding tank containing cleaner mixture to a holding tank containing a greater proportion of solids, whereby liquid equilibrium is maintained within the system.

Modularized multi-stage separator system

Apparatus for cleaning sediment from basins comprises a suction system that withdraws particulate-laden liquid from the bottom of the basin. A pump providing the suction transports the particulate-laden liquid to a first vessel or catch tank where primary settling of the particulate can occur. A second pump withdraws particulate laden liquid from the catch tank and directs a high velocity flow of particulate laden coolant through separator apparatus for primary separation of particulate matter. The discharge of effluvia of the primary separator is conducted to a second vessel or tank. A third pump withdraws liquid from the lowermost portion of the second vessel and forces a high velocity flow through a secondary system for further separation of particulate matter from the liquid. The discharge of the second separator system is conducted to a third vessel or tank. A fourth pump withdraws liquid from the bottom of the third vessel and forces a high velocity flow through a tertiary separator system for yet further separation of particulate matter from the liquid. The discharge from the tertiary separator is conducted to a fourth vessel. A fifth pump withdraws cleaned liquid from the lowermost portion of the fourth vessel and conducts the cleaned liquid back to the basin.

Method and apparatus for cleaning basins

Disclosed is a drilling fluid gas and solids removal system. The system includes a pedestal with a solids collection tub rotatably mounted thereon. A pressure vessel is supported by the pedestal above the solids collection tub. The pressure vessel includes a cylindrical degassing neck and a pump is provided to force drilling fluid into the degassing neck in a tangentially spiralling path about the interior of the neck. A plurality of hydrocyclones are connected to the pressure vessel to receive drilling fluid and discharge solids into the solids collection tub. A clean drilling fluid collection tank is mounted about the degassing neck to receive clean drilling fluid from the hydrocyclones.

Oil is recovered from a mixture of oil and water by heating the mixture, adding a de-emulsifier, passing the mixture through a first vibrating screen, adding a surface tension reducer, processing through a hydrocyclone, passing through a second vibrating screen, and separating the oil from water by settling.

Method and apparatus for recovering waste oil

Disclosed is a personnel protective apparatus which includes a helmet and a full face shield attachable to the helmet. The helmet includes a facial opening having a resilient edge roll thereabout. The face shield has a resilient seal bonded thereto which includes a face sealing portion adapted to form a seal about the face and a helmet sealing portion adapted to engage the edge roll and form a seal about the facial opening. The face sealing portion includes a first inwardly directed pressure energized seal which engages the face and a second outwardly directed pressure energized seal to engage the face. The helmet sealing portion includes a channel formed to encircle the face shield and cooperate with the edge roll of the helmet to urge the second shield into better sealing engagement with the face.

A chemical reactor, flow distributor, system and method are disclosed. A plurality of chemically inert flow distributors are embedded in the receiving surface of a layer of chemically inert objects supported by a bed of catalytic material which is disposed within a chemical reactor. The flow distributors are constructed from spheres of chemically inert material interconnected to one another and defining a desirable geometric form having voids and interstices which provide passageways therethrough, the passageways permitting the reactants to pass in effectively distributed manner into the bed of catalytic material.

Apparatus for transporting material separated from a flowing fluid from one location to another is disclosed. The apparatus mounts a cyclone separator on one end of an elongated container with the separator including a body having an inlet passage, a fluid outlet passage and a separated material outlet passage. The container is pivoted about an axis disposed reversely to the elongated axis of the container up to a point where the cyclone separator is operational. The flowing fluid and material passes through the inlet passageway where the material is separated from the fluid and dropped into the container, the fluid continuing through the fluid outlet passageway and back into the system from which it was withdrawn. The container is then moved about the transverse axis from the separating position back to the transporting position, the container and separated material held therein being transported to the other location.

Apparatus for transporting material separated from a flowing fluid

A method of and apparatus for preventing fluid leaks out of a well which involves installing a blowout preventer at a wellhead, the preventer has a body with a bore communicating with a bore hole and a clamping means for controlling the passage of fluid through the bore. Means are provided for directing sealant into the bore beneath the clamping means so that when an occurrence of a blowout is sensed, the clamping means are closed to inhibit flow of fluid up the bore and a sealant is injected through the directing means into the bore so that the sealant is carried to the closed clamping means which forms a seal to insure that fluid does not leak past the closed clamping means.

The present invention relates to a new and improved method of unloading dry particulate matter in containers wherein the containers are positioned in an enclosed drum and rotated. Thereafter, a releasable spout mounted with the drum enables the dry particulate matter to be dumped or released from the drum without danger to workmen or dangerous spreading of the dust from the dry matter.

Unloading device

Apparatus is provided for cleaning a filter to permit continuous gas filtering operations. At least one filter is used in a gas filtering device to remove particulate matter from the gas. A support mechanism movably supports the filter. Urging apparatus is used in the device for urging the filter into a tense position. Releasable automatic moving apparatus is provided to automatically overcome the urging apparatus and moving the filter to a less tense position and thereupon released for returning the filter to the tense position thereby causing removal of particulate matter from the filter.

The present invention relates to a new and improved unloading apparatus for dry particulate matter in containers wherein the containers are positioned in an enclosed drum and rotated. Thereafter, a releasable spout mounted with the drum enables the dry particulate matter to be dumped or released from the drum without danger to workmen or dangerous spreading of the dust from the dry matter.

In one exemplary embodiment, the efficiency of an acoustic-energy-type cleaner for vessels, such as heat exchangers, is substantially increased by propagating through the fluid in the vessel, a plurality of opposing acoustic wave trains, and continuously varying at least the frequency or phase relationship of said opposing wave trains for causing constructive interference between said opposing acoustic waves to create a series of augmented acoustic waves that are spatially displaced in relation to each other and successive in time interval for sweeping over the surfaces of the body to be cleaned.
