A packing system for a gate valve is disclosed which includes a sealing member structured to be positioned between a compression member and packing material housed in a cavity formed in the upper edge of a valve housing to provide even and consistent pressure of the packing material against the gate of the valve, thereby preventing leakage from about the gate of the valve. The packing may also include a gasket between the compression member and sealing member to provide additional sealing assurance.

Packing box arrangement for a gate valve

The valve assembly 20 has two housing halves 22 which are bolted together to form a housing 24 for two resilient valve liners 26 with coaxial through passages 28 for the flow of fluids through the assembly. A metal gate 30 selectively blocks the through passages 28. Each valve liner 26 has a radially extending flange 32 in which is embedded a frustoconical metal spring 34 which biases the flanges against the gate 30 and retains a seal about the gate in a valve closed configuration. The assembly has a split seat formed by two seat inserts 36 retained in the housing halves 22 beneath the valve liners 26. The seat inserts 36 are open to the bottom of the housing 24 and permit debris to be ejected from the valve assembly 20. The spring may be formed to have ends which are not connected and positioned by inserting a locator tab on the exterior flange of the liner into a corresponding depression in the valve housing.

Gate valve with spring assisted valve liner

The valve assembly 20 has two housing halves 22 which are bolted together to form a housing 24 for two resilient valve liners 26 with coaxial through passages 28 for the flow of fluids through the assembly. A metal gate 30 travels vertically within the housing 24 to selectively block the through passages 28. Each valve liner 26 has a radially extending flange 32 in which is embedded a frustoconical metal spring 34 which biases the flanges against the gate 30 and retains a seal about the gate in a valve closed configuration. The assembly has a split seat formed by two seat inserts 36 retained in the housing halves 22 beneath the valve liners 26. The seat inserts 36 are open to the bottom of the housing 24 and permit debris to be ejected from the valve assembly 20. An alternative embodiment valve assembly has a wave spring which applies a force through an embedded ring to bias the valve liners against the gate.

Spring-assisted split seat gate valve

A gate valve assembly has two aligned and connected body housing members which each have a gate slot above a through passage which is above a seat portion slot. Gaskets are compressed by the body housing members to form a liquid-tight seal along the valve sides. Two resilient valve liners are fitted between and compressed by the body housing members. Each valve liner has a body with a planar front face and a cylindrical through passage which extends through the liner body. A seat portion extends downwardly from the body of each liner and increases in thickness as it extends from the body. The valve liners are compressed within the body housing members such that the planar front faces are adjacent one another and the seat portions are compressed within the seat portion slots to produce a tight seal along the bottom of the valve assembly. A packing filled chamber at the top of the assembly forms a tight seal at the top of the valve. An imperforate gate is slidable through the gate slots to alternatively obstruct and permit fluid flow through the valve. The seat portions extend to the bottom of the valve such that particles trapped between the seat portions may be expelled form the valve between the seat portions.

Split seat gate valve
