A support for securing a battery pack in a vehicle wherein the battery pack includes a plurality of batteries bound together between two end plates having threaded mounting studs affixed thereto and projecting outwardly therefrom. The support includes a horizontal tray having an upstanding peripheral rim, a retainer flange projecting outwardly from the rim along one side of the tray, an upstanding mounting plate on the side of the tray opposite the retainer flange, and a retainer bar positioned above the retainer flange and appropriately secured thereto. The upstanding plate and retainer bar have apertures for receiving the studs on the battery pack.

Battery tray for electric vehicle

The drawings illustrate a cooling system for use with a torque converter assembly and a radiator containing a coolant. The cooling system includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced cooling fan blades formed on the outer surface of the torque converter housing for rotation therewith, and opening means cooperating therewith. A shroud having speed responsive diverter means associated therewith is operatively connected at one end thereof to the opening means and mounted at the other end thereof adjacent a face of the radiator for cooling the coolant therein by communicating air toward or away from the radiator depending upon whether the fan blades are used as a blower or a suction device in particular vehicular applications.

Radiator cooling system

A low-profile and versatile battery-retaining assembly used to secure a plurality of batteries for an electric vehicle. The batteries are arranged in close proximity to one another in a generally rectangular matrix of two or more and each has recessed hold-down portions located on opposite lower edges. A perimeter frame extends about the battery arrangement and includes vertical and horizontal edge portions. Elongated retainer members extend between the batteries, each having enlarged portions which project into the recessed hold-down portions of the batteries. The elongated retainer members engage the frame with their ends extending into elongated slots which permits self adjustment with respect to the position relative the frame ends. This automatically accommodates variations in battery dimension.

Battery clamping and retention

The drawings illustrate a rear suspension system for a motor vehicle, including a laterally extending member connected by vertically oriented pivotal means to a wheel carrier. A torsion bar is formed to include a transversely oriented center portion connected to the frame, and longitudinally oriented end portions connected at the distal ends thereof to the wheel carriers rearward of the pivotal connection between the wheel carrier, and the laterally extending member such that the distal ends of the torsion bar can move in the vertical direction only, thereby serving as both a stabilizer bar and a link for providing roll steer characteristics to the rear wheels. As an alternate embodiment, adjustable mounting means may be operatively connected between the distal ends of the torsion bar and the wheel carriers for providing toe-in or toe-out adjustment for the rear wheels.

Independent rear suspension system

A sliding vehicle door has a guard beam therein having flanges at its upper and lower edges. An extruded carriage member is associated with each of the flanges and slidably engages the flange to permit longitudinal movement of the guard beam and the door on the carriage member. A hinge arm is associated with each of the extruded carriage members and has one end pivoted to the carriage member and the other end pivoted to a body pillar defining the door opening. An articulating link acts between the body pillar and one of the carriage members to maintain the door in substantial parallel relationship with the vehicle longitudinal axis during pivotal movement of the hinge arms to move the door laterally of the body between a closed position in the plane of the door opening and an open position laterally outboard of the door opening. A first interlock arrangement acts between one of the hinge arms and the guard beam to assure completed lateral movement of the door prior to longitudinal sliding movement of the door. A second interlocking acts between the hinge arm and its associated carriage member to prevent lateral inboard movement prior to completed sliding movement of the door to its normal closed position on the carriage member.
