To package a stack of flat objects, such as bags provided with handles, the stack having a height exceeding widths of the objects, the stack is wrapped by a section of a web of paper or plastic. The marginal portions of the web section which overlap at one side face of the stack are adhesively bonded to each other to form a tubular wrapper around the stack. End portions of the wrapper, which protrude from the ends of the stack, are folded onto the end faces of the stack so as to form folded corner portions. The folded corner portions are folded onto and adhesively bonded to one side face of the stack. To permit simple packaging, one side portion of each protruding end portion of the tubular wrapper is first folded onto the adjacent open end face of the stack about the longer edge of the end face. The adjacent ends of each protruding end portion of the wrapper are pulled out and flattened into the plane of the folded inside portion so that the opposite side portion of the protruding end portion is folded about an opposite longer edge of the adjacent end face of the stack onto the end face. Folded corner portions, protruding from the stack, are thus formed. The folded corner portions are then folded onto and adhesively bonded to the wrapper on those side faces of the stack which adjoin the initially open side face of the stack.

Process of and apparatus for packaging a stack of flat objects

Cutting apparatus for cutting moving sheets or webs. A rotatable cutter carrier and a rotatable backup member are respectively provided with cutter blades and grooves, which cooperate in the plane of the sheet and are moved by planetary gear trains through cutting positions wherein cutter blades and backup bars are moved into face-to-face relationship to effect cuts in sheet material that passes therebetween. The gear trains include a stationary sun gear, and idler gears that are rotatably carried in carrier discs and that mesh with the sun gear and with planet gears that are non-rotatably connected to respective ones of cutter bars that carry the cutter blades and to cooperating backup bars. One of the cutter bars or the backup bars is provided with extensible needles for piercing a portion of the sheet section that is intended to be removed therefrom. Holders for the needles are provided with cam followers that engage with a rotatable cam to cause the needles to be extended and to engage the sheet section intended to be removed.

Cutting apparatus for cutting sheet material

Apparatus for successively depositing sections severed from the leading end of a web of film on a support to form a stack in which the sections are staggered comprises an output shaft carrying two suction tubes or suction tube rows which engage a respective section and transfer it to the support as the output shaft is turned intermittently by interconnected crank arms from an input shaft which is horizontally offset from the output shaft and parallel thereto. The tubes or rows of tubes include an obtuse angle and are alternately revolved by the output shaft through the obtuse angle and the explement thereof.

Apparatus for depositing sections welded off from a web of film

In an apparatus for producing transverse weld seams in a continuously fed two-ply web of plastics film and comprising a rotary welding cylinder about which the web is partially slung and which is provided with a plurality of welding bars at its periphery, the welding bars are steplessly adjustable radially of the cylinder, the smallest spacing between adjacent said transverse weld seams corresponds to twice the spacing between adjacent welding bars when the latter are in their retracted position, steplessly radially adjustable supporting members for the web are provided between the welding bars, and the welding bars are energizable by a sequence control in a sequence which is independent of the number of said welding bars.
