Resource provider specifications, characterizing computing resources of computing resource providers, are received. The reachability of each IP address included in the received specification is determined. An agent is deployed that is operable to determine the value of each of a set of metrics in the environment of the host at which the agent is deployed. The agent determines the value of each metric of the set of metrics in the environment of the relevant host, and communicates the determined values to one or more computing devices that validate whether the resources characterized by the communicated values are sufficient to provide the performance characterized by the received specification and that each ISP router complies with a predetermined policy. For each computing resource provider validated and determined to comprise an ISP router compliant with policy, the specified computing resources are added to a pool of resources for cloud computing.

Crowd-sourced cloud computing resource validation

One embodiment is a method including extending a policy server to provide per subscriber policies to a cable modem (CM) and a cable modem termination system (CMTS), receiving, at the policy server, a request for a policy profile from a cable modem termination system (CMTS), accessing a subscriber database to determine the policy profile, and communicating the policy profile to the CMTS. In an example, the policy server is a packet cable multimedia policy server of a cable network.

Policy architecture for cable networks

A Centralized Self Organizing Network (C-SON) automation platform for managing a backhaul infrastructure in a telecommunication network. The C-SON automation platform monitors one or more backhaul utilization performance indicators corresponding to a backhaul infrastructure, which infrastructure transports data between one or more User Equipment (UE) connected to a small cell and a data network. The C-SON further receives subscriber data for at least one User Equipment (UE) and location data for the at least one UE from at least one Network Function (NF), and maps the at least one UE to a backhaul service flow and the small cell based on the subscriber data and the location data. The C-SON automation platform determines the backhaul utilization performance indicator exceeds a backhaul threshold limit for the backhaul service flow, and adjusts a bandwidth utilization of the backhaul infrastructure based on the backhaul utilization parameter exceeding the backhaul threshold limit.

Employing self organizing network (SON) techniques to manage data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) backhaul for small cells

A crowd-sourced cloud environment allows for, and benefits from, modes of interaction between among the service providers (including the 'resource providers' and the 'cloud provider') and consumers (also referred to herein as &#x201c;tenants&#x201d;) that are not practiced in a DC-centric cloud environment&#x2014;specifically, the use of Internet-based social networking technology and Internet-based online marketplace technology to facilitate resource pooling and interaction between crowd-sourced cloud resource providers, the cloud provider, and crowd-sourced cloud consumers.

Next, it may be determined, based on the identifier, that the current message is associated with a transaction. Then, in response to determining that the current message is associated with the transaction, the current message may be sent to a target service instance corresponding to the transaction.

The first device may estimate an initial traffic profile in response to identifying when the service flow is expected to become active. The first device may then grant allocation based on the initial traffic profile of the service flow. Next, the first device may collect feedback to later update the traffic profile estimate. The first device may then update the traffic profile estimate.

Predictive scheduler

Elastic capacity management of remote physical layer (R-PHY) nodes with a cloud Cable Modem Termination System (cCMTS) may be provided. First, a cCMTS instance may be spawned by an orchestrator. Next, the cCMTS instance may be synchronized with states of a physical Cable Modem Termination System (pCMTS). Underlay routing may then be configured between a plurality of remote physical layer (R-PHY) nodes and the cCMTS instance. Then a plurality of R-PHY node connections respectively corresponding to the plurality of R-PHY nodes may be switched from the pCMTS to the cCMTS instance.

Elastic capacity management with a cloud cable modem termination system (cCMTS)

A virtual physical layer may be provided. When providing the virtual physical layer, a remote radio head may be used. The remote radio head may comprise a first interface device, a second interface device, a digital-to-analog converter, and an analog-to-digital converter. The first interface device may be connected to a virtual physical layer instance instantiated in a cloud-based environment. The second interface device may be connected to customer premises equipment. The digital-to-analog converter may be connected between the first interface device and the second interface device and the analog-to-digital converter may also be connected between the first interface device and the second interface device.

An embodiment of a method includes determining a channel signature for each of a plurality of cable devices associated with a selected household; determining whether at least one of the channel signatures is substantially different than the remaining ones of the channel signatures; and if at least one of the channel signatures is substantially different than the remaining ones of the channel signatures, flagging the selected household for potential theft of services review. Additional embodiments may include determining a radio frequency ('RF') signal power level for each of the cable devices; calculating a sum of the determined RF signal power levels; determining whether the calculated sum is equal to an RF power signal level measured at a tap of the selected household; and if the calculated sum is not equal to the measured RF power signal level, flagging the selected household for potential theft of services review.

Techniques for detecting the location of a cable modem using radio frequency channel signature and power level

A method provided in a network including edge devices to collect data from data producers connected to the edge devices and to communicate with cloud-based prosumers connected with the edge devices. Data analytics tasks are identified. The data analytics tasks are used to process data collected from a data producer among the data producers to produce a result for consumption by one or more of the cloud-based prosumers. For each data analytics task it is determined whether a computational complexity of the data analytics task is less than or equal to a predetermined computational complexity. Each data analytics task determined to have a computational complexity less than or equal to the predetermined computational complexity is assigned to an edge device among the edge devices. Each data analytics task determined to have a computational complexity that exceeds the predetermined computational complexity is assigned to a prosumer among the prosumers.

An example system and method for facilitating virtual cable modem termination system (VCMTS) migration in cable modem network environments is provided and includes spawning, by an orchestration component executing using a processor, a first instance of a virtual network function (VNF) on a first server in a cable modem network, storing state of the first instance as state information in an external database, spawning a second instance of the VNF on a different second server, synchronizing state of the second instance with the state information stored in the external database, and deleting the first instance. In specific embodiments, the VNF comprises a VCMTS.
