Embodiments of a microelectronic assembly comprise a plurality of transceiver modules, each transceiver module including a first antenna; a printed circuit board (PCB); and a reflector module coupled to the PCB and separated from the plurality of transceiver modules by a space. The reflector module comprises: a substrate having a first side and an opposing second side, the first side being proximate to the plurality of transceiver modules, an antenna-array on the first side of the substrate, the antenna-array including a plurality of second antennas; a first integrated circuit (IC) die on the second side of the substrate; and a second IC die on the second side of the substrate. The first IC die comprises radio frequency (RF) switches configured to operate at electromagnetic frequencies between 20 kHz and 1 THz, and the second IC die comprises memory cell arrays and digital logic circuits.

Methods and apparatus to implement compact time-frequency division multiplexing for MIMO radar are disclosed. An apparatus includes an antenna array controller to: transmit a first signal via a first transmitter of a radar antenna array, the first signal having a first duration and modulated across a first frequency range; and transmit a second signal via a second transmitter, the second signal having a second duration and modulated across a second frequency range, the first and second durations including an overlapping period of time, the first and second frequency ranges including an overlapping frequency range. The apparatus further includes a signal separation analyzer to: determine a first echo received at a receiver of the radar antenna array corresponds to the first signal; and determine a second echo received at the receiver corresponds to the second signal.

Example software defined radar architectures are disclosed. Example chipsets disclosed herein to implement a software defined radar architecture include a digital processor chip including a first serial port and a second serial port. Disclosed example chipsets also include a transmitter chip to generate a plurality of transmit signals based on baseband radar waveform data to be obtained from the digital processor chip, the transmitter chip including a third serial port to communicate with the first serial port of the digital processor chip to obtain the baseband radar waveform data. Disclosed example chipsets further include a receiver chip to determine baseband received radar data from a plurality of radar signals, the receiver chip including a fourth serial port to communicate with the second serial port of the digital processor chip to provide the baseband received radar data to the digital processor chip.

An EC platform including a controller to control multiple integrated circuits (ICs) to synchronize an operational internal clock signal of an IC with a master clock signal. The controller generates commands for the IC to measure a phase difference or latency difference between an initial internal clock signal of the IC and an input clock signal to the IC from a parent IC. The controller further receives a difference signal from the IC to indicate the phase or latency difference. The IC includes a measurement circuit to measure the phase or latency difference, and to generate a difference signal to indicate the phase or latency difference. The IC further includes a synchronization clock generator to generate, based on the initial internal clock signal and the difference signal, an operational internal clock signal synchronized with the master clock signal. Other embodiments may also be described and claimed.

Multi-chip synchronization with applications in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems

A quadrature based voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) local oscillator (LO) system is disclosed. The system includes a phase detector, a quadrature phase VCO, a quadrature control path, an in-phase control path, and an in-phase VCO. The phase detector is configured to compare and generate phase error between a reference clock and an in-phase VCO output. The quadrature control path configured to generate a quadrature control voltage based on a quadrature VCO output and the in-phase VCO output. The quadrature phase VCO configured to generate the quadrature VCO output based on the quadrature control voltage and the generated phase error. The in-phase control path configured to generate an in-phase control voltage based on the quadrature VCO output and the in-phase VCO output. The in-phase VCO is configured to generate the in-phase VCO output based on the in-phase control voltage and the generated phase error. An all digital dual mode phase locked/phase tracking loop LO generate system is also disclosed.

An apparatus for determining a distance to an object is provided. The apparatus includes a first transceiver configured to transmit a first radio frequency signal. Further, the apparatus includes a second transceiver configured to transmit a second radio frequency signal in response to receiving the first radio frequency signal. The apparatus additionally includes a processing circuit configured to determine the distance to the object based on a transmission time of the first radio frequency signal and a reception time, at the first transceiver, of a reflected component of the second radio frequency signal that is reflected by the object.
