Systems and methods for communication management using rules-based decision systems and artificial intelligence are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes a memory unit that stores a knowledge base, wherein the knowledge base stores parametric rules associated with the selection of a communication channel in one or more communications channels, status, performance and usage metrics for communications through the one or more communication channels, vehicle state information, and pre-configured policy on use of communication channels. Also, the system includes a processing unit configured to acquire data related to vehicle state and communication through the one or more communication channels. Additionally, the processing unit is configured to update the knowledge base with updated parametric rules without stopping execution of software, wherein the updated parametric rules are created using machine learning performed on the acquired data and the information associated with the performance goals.

Moreover, the method includes providing the situation information to the analytical model executing on the mobile edge node. Also, identifying a change in one or more communication link states based on an output of the analytical model. Additionally, transmitting the output of the analytical model to the external server. The method also includes receiving an additional analytical model from the external server by the mobile edge node, where the additional analytical model is based on the output of the analytical model.

System and method for enabling external device connectivity to avionics systems

A surface movement, guidance and control system is provided. The system includes a plurality of base stations, disposed at a site, each base station providing a coverage area and having a known geo location and using an IP-based high data rate radio link with low latency. Each base station is adapted to receive periodic positional updates from vehicles on the site over the IP-based high data rate radio link. The system also includes a server. The server is communicatively coupled to the plurality of base stations. The server is configured to track and periodically transmit the location of the vehicles to the base stations. Each base station broadcasts vehicle position information.

In an embodiment, a system includes base stations and a server. Each base station has a respective fixed position, and is configured to broadcast information that a mobile station can use to determine a position of the mobile station. And the server is configured to communicate with the base stations and to track a position of a mobile station. An example of such a system is an Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communications System (AeroMACS), which includes base stations that are located in respective fixed, known positions within and around an airport, and at least one server that communicates with the base stations and tracks the positions of moveable stations within and around the airport. The base stations can provide information that allows both GNSS-enabled and non-GNSS-enabled mobile stations to determine their positions without adding significant cost or complexity to the AeroMACS.

The method comprises presenting information content for transmission to a destination entity, and simultaneously sending different segments of the information over a plurality of data link connections. All segments of the information are received from the plurality of data link connections at the destination entity, and the data segments are reconstructed back into the information content at the destination entity.

In an embodiment, a method of routing packets at a first node in an ad-hoc network is provided. The method includes receiving, at the first node, a plurality of route-alive messages corresponding to a destination, each of the plurality of route-alive messages including a route time indicating a length of time in which a communicative connection is available between the second node that sent the respective route-alive message and the destination. The method also includes determining an updated route time for each second node. The updated route time corresponds to a length of time in which a communication connection is available between the first node and the destination through the respective second node. A second node is selected for sending a packet to based on the updated route time for each of the second nodes, wherein a node having a longer updated route time is given higher priority for selection.

In certain embodiments a communication node for a self organizing network comprises a communication interface configured to transmit data to and receive data from a plurality of nodes; and a processing unit configured to execute computer readable instructions. Further, computer readable instructions direct the processing unit to identify a sub-region within a cell, wherein the communication node is located in the sub-region; and transmit at least one data frame, wherein the data from the communication node is transmitted at a particular time and frequency as defined within the at least one data frame, where the time and frequency are associated with the sub-region.

Systems and methods for incorporating determinism in the wireless domain are provided. In certain embodiments, a network for deterministic wireless communication comprises of a wireless switch and a wireless communication node, wherein the wireless communication node comprises of a processor unit configured to execute executable instructions. The executable instructions direct the processor unit to define avionics full-duplex switched Ethernet (AFDX) parameters for the formation of a virtual link between different end systems and convert the AFDX parameters into one of WiMAX and LTE parameters to define a wireless service flow between the different end systems. The executable instructions also direct the processor unit to create an AFDX schedule for communicating messages between the different end systems based on the AFDX parameters and create a schedule for one of WiMAX and LTE for communicating the messages between the different end systems over a wireless connection based on the AFDX schedule.

A method to facilitate securing of air-to-ground communications for an aircraft is provided. The method includes receiving security management information at the aircraft via at least one broadband data link prior to takeoff of the aircraft. The security management information is received for ground entities that can be communicatively coupled with the aircraft traveling on a flight path. The method of securing avionics also includes validating the security management information for the ground entities, and storing the validated security management information for the ground entities in the aircraft. The validating and storing of security management information occur prior to takeoff of the aircraft.

A method to dynamically reconfigure a network by receiving a data packet for transmission from a node in the network at a media access control layer of the node and determining a slot assignment for the data packet based on an application required quality of service. The application required quality of service is determined based on at least one of a number of slots required by the data packet, an application-specified data rate, an application-specified delay requirement and an application-specified number of reserved retries, and application-associated priority values for the data packet. The media access control layer is enabled for time division multiple access.
