A system and method for remotely controlling the stimulation therapy for neurological, neuropsychiatric and urological disorders, comprises an implantable lead-receiver and an external stimulator with two-way wireless communication capability, through a server. Proximity sensing of an implanted coil and feedback regulation of stimulation pulses is provided through an implanted magnet and circuitry in the external stimulator. The external stimulator comprises predetermined (pre-packaged) programs for neuromodulation therapy. Some of these pre-packaged programs are &ldquo;locked-out&rdquo; to the patient, and can be activated remotely via a server by the physician. A physician can also set up a library of the therapy programs to be executed over a set period of time. The physician can also interrogate remotely, the stimulation therapy setting on a a server or a hand-held device, through a server.

Method and system for neuromodulation therapy using external stimulator with wireless communication capabilites

A method and apparatus for proximity sensing and feedback regulation between a bodily implanted secondary coil and an external primary coil applied for generating and propagating a well-defined set of excitation signals used for nerve or muscle stimulation. The complete device is a combination of external and implantable or internal components. The internal component contains a relatively small magnet composed of materials that exhibit Giant Magneto-resistor characteristics, passive circuitry and a secondary coil. The external coil contains proximity sensor circuitry that is rigidly connected in a convenient enclosure mounted supercutaneously. Feedback information of the position of the implanted coil is provided to the pulse generation circuit and the parameters are adjusted to compensate for any variation in the position of the internal coil in order to maintain the necessary signal pattern.

Method and apparatus for locating implanted receiver and feedback regulation between subcutaneous and external coils

An external stimulator adapted to be inductively coupled with an implanted lead-receiver is designed to deliver neuromodulation therapy for disorders including depression, migraine, partial complex epilepsy, generalized epilepsy, involuntary movement disorders, dementia, obsessive compulsive disorders, urinary incontinence, neurogenic/psychogenic pain and bladder control. The external stimulator containing limited number of predetermined programs packaged into the stimulator, giving the patient or caretaker a way to adjust the therapy within confined limits, or turn the device off. The pre-packaged programs contain unique combination of pulse amplitude, pulse width, frequency of stimulation, and on-off time. The programs are capable of being modified with a programming station connected to the pulse generator with a RS232-C serial connection.
