The use of scintillator compositions having a cubic garnet structure for gamma detection in downhole oil and gas explorations is provided. Specifically, two primary compositions of interest are disclosed, CaLnHfAlOand NaLnHfAlO, where Ln is Y, Gd, Tb, or La. Under gamma ray excitation, the electron-hole pairs produced in the garnet lattice structure are trapped by an activator ion to yield an efficient emission in the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The cubic garnet structure enables the use of these materials as ceramic scintillators with considerable advantages over related single crystals in various ways as disclosed herein, including reduction in cost and improvement in overall performance and durability.

Garnet scintillator compositions for downhole oil and gas explorations

The present disclosure relates to a lighting component which may comprise a light emitting diode (LED) or laser diode (LD) for generating at least one of blue light or ultraviolet light. A fluoride phosphor matrix may be included, which may be consolidated into a phosphor ceramic structure including at least one of a transparent fluoride ceramic structure or a translucent fluoride ceramic structure, and positioned adjacent to the LED or LD. The phosphor ceramic structure generates at least one of red or orange light when irradiated by the light emitted from the LED or LD. The phosphor ceramic structure exhibits reduced thermal quenching relative to a fluoride particulate structure irradiated by the LED or LD.

Systems and methods for fluoride ceramic phosphors for LED lighting

A lighting device is presented. The lighting device includes an LED light source; and a red/far-red emitting phosphor radiationally coupled to the LED light source, wherein the red/far-red emitting phosphor comprises a host material activated with an activator ion, and wherein the activator ion comprises at least one of Smand Mn. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Horticulture lighting device

A scintillator for positron emission tomography is provided. The scintillator includes a garnet compound of a formula of ABCOand an activator ion consisting of cerium. Ais AX. X consists of at least one lanthanide element. Ais selected from the group consisting of (i), (ii), (iii), and any combination thereof, wherein (i) consists of at least one lanthanide element, (ii) consists of at least one group I element selected from the group consisting of Na and K, and (iii) consists of at least one group II element selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr, and Ba. Bconsists of Sn, Ti, Hf, Zr, and any combination thereof. Cconsists of Al, Ga, Li, and any combination thereof. The garnet compound is doped with the activator ion.

Ceramic scintillator based on cubic garnet compositions for positron emission tomography (PET)

The specification and drawings present a new apparatus such as a lighting apparatus, the apparatus comprising at least one LED (or OLED) module, configured to generate a visible light such as white light, and at least one component such as optical component comprising a compound consisting essentially of the elements neodymium (Nd) and fluorine (F), and optionally including one or more other elements. The lighting apparatus is configured to provide a desired light spectrum by filtering the generated visible light using the compound. The at least one component can comprise a NdFOcompound with values of x and y determining a content ratio F/O, which may be adjusted during manufacturing of the NdFOcompound to provide desired output light parameters of the apparatus including at least a desired output light spectrum realized by filtering the generated visible light using the NdFOcompound.

LED apparatus employing neodymium based materials with variable content of fluorine and oxygen

An electrochemical cell includes a bifunctional air cathode, an anode, and a ceramic electrolyte separator disposed substantially between the bifunctional air cathode and the anode. The anode includes a solid metal and an electrolyte configured to transition to a liquid phase in an operating temperature range. The electrolyte includes at least one of an alkali oxide, boron oxide, a carbonate, a phosphate, and a group III-X transition metal oxide.

Electrochemical cell for use in high temperature metal-air battery

A method and an apparatus for detecting photons are disclosed. The apparatus includes a scintillator single crystal and an avalanche photodiode coupled to the scintillator single crystal. The scintillator single crystal is at a temperature greater than about 175&#xb0; C. and at a shock level in a range from about 20 Grms to about 30 Grms. The scintillator single crystal includes a praseodymium doped composition selected from (LaY)2SiO:Pr, ABClX:Pr, A(Li,Na)LaClX:Pr, or any combinations thereof. As used herein A is cesium, rubidium, potassium, sodium, or a combination thereof, B is calcium, barium, strontium, magnesium, cadmium, zinc, or a combination thereof, and X is bromine, iodine, or a combination thereof. Further, (0&#x3c;x&#x3c;1), and (0&#x3c;y&#x3c;3).

Radiation detection apparatus and related method

The present approach generally relates to systems and methods for implementing energy modulated tomographic imaging of nanoparticles. In certain embodiments, a first energy is used to activate probe particles labeling an anatomy or tissue of interest. The probe particles, once activated, emit photons at a different rate and/or spectrum in response to an underlying physiological event, such as action potentials propagating in the labeled anatomy or tissue. The emitted photons may then be detected and used to map or image the occurrence of the physiological event.

Phosphor compositions and lighting apparatus thereof

Articles having coatings that are resistant to high temperature degradation are described, along with methods for making such articles. The article comprises a coating disposed on a substrate. The coating comprises a plurality of elongated surface-connected voids. The article further includes a protective agent disposed within at least some of the voids of the coating; the protective agent comprises a substance capable of chemically reacting with liquid nominal CMAS to form a solid crystalline product outside the crystallization field of said nominal CMAS. This solid crystalline product has a melting temperature greater than about 1200 degrees Celsius. The method generally includes disposing the protective agent noted above within the surface connected voids of the coating at an effective concentration to substantially prevent incursion of CMAS materials into the voids in which the protective agent is disposed.

Articles for high temperature service and method for making

An article including a substrate and a plurality of coatings disposed on the substrate is presented. The plurality of coatings includes a thermal barrier coating disposed on the substrate; and a protective coating including a calcium-magnesium-aluminum-silicon-oxide (CMAS)-reactive material disposed on the thermal barrier coating. The CMAS-reactive material has an orthorhombic weberite crystal structure. The CMAS-reactive material is present in the plurality of coatings in an effective amount to react with a CMAS composition at an operating temperature of the thermal barrier coating, thereby forming a reaction product having one or both of melting temperature and viscosity greater than that of the CMAS composition. A method of making the article and a related turbine engine component are also presented.
