A vertical axis wind turbine is disclosed which includes an upstanding tower. A plurality of radially spaced-apart airfoil supports are rotatably mounted on the tower which extend outwardly therefrom. A generally vertically disposed airfoil blade is pivotally secured, about a vertical axis, to the outer end of each of the airfoil supports. A wind vane is secured to each of the airfoil blades which causes pivotal movement of the associated airfoil blade relative to the associated airfoil support in response to wind direction. A mechanism interconnects each of the airfoil blades to the associated wind vane which causes pivotal displacement of the airfoil blade with respect to the associated wind vane and wind flow with the pivotal displacement being of a magnitude and direction to cause a forward thrust to the airfoil blade from wind acting on the airfoil blade.

A powered, lightweight soil tillage device, including an elongated hollow support member having a motor and handle at the upper end thereof, and the tillage assembly mounted at the lower end thereof. The tillage assembly comprises a pair of beams which are mounted on opposite sides of a gearbox and driven thereby. The upper ends of the beams are attached to idler or rocker beams so that each of the beams is moved in a generally circular path. Hoe blades or the like are secured to the forward ends of the beams and extend inwardly therefrom so that the hoe blades are disposed one behind the other.

Powered soil tillage device

An outlet for connecting spray nozzles, drop tubes or the like to an irrigation pipe comprising a generally cylindrical-shaped member having an inner end, an outer end, an annular shoulder protruding outwardly therefrom between the inner and outer ends, and an internally threaded bore extending therethrough. When the outlet is positioned in an opening formed in an irrigation pipe, the annular shoulder of the outlet is in engagement with the exterior surface of the pipe. A machine is also disclosed for creating a plurality of horizontally spaced-apart bulged areas in the pipe with each of the bulged areas having a flat surface thereon. The machine includes a bulging punch which creates the bulged areas in the pipe. The machine further includes a punch for creating an outlet opening in the flat surface of the bulged area. The machine also includes means for installing the outlet in the opening and to flare the inner end of the outlet into mechanical engagement with the interior surface of the pipe around the opening created therein.

An apparatus for opening and closing the discharge doors of a railroad hopper car is described comprising a mounting frame secured to the hopper car forwardly of the discharge door and having a pivot frame pivotally secured thereto which is interconnected to the discharge door by an elongated linkage. A pivot arm is also pivotally secured to the mounting frame and has an air cylinder pivotally secured thereto which is interconnected to the pivot frame. Extension of the hydraulic cylinder causes the pivot frame to pivot with respect to the mounting frame thereby causing the adjustable linkage to open the door. Retraction of the cylinder rod into the cylinder causes the pivot frame to pivot with respect to the mounting frame to cause the adjustable linkage to close the discharge door. When the door is in its closed position, the cylinder rod of the air cylinder is in its retracted position. The alignment of the various components and pivot points ensures that the discharge door cannot come open during transportation should the air cylinder fail.
