An electrocoating composition is provided herein. The electrocoating composition includes an aqueous carrier. The electrocoating composition further includes a film forming binder. The film forming binder includes an epoxy-amine adduct and a blocked polyisocyanate crosslinking agent. The electrocoating composition further includes an anti-crater agent selected from the group of a polyester resin dispersion, a polyacrylate resin dispersion, and a combination thereof. The electrocoating composition further includes a supplemental anti-crater agent including a polyether modified polysiloxane.

Electrocoating composition including an anti-crater agent

The present disclosure relates to an improved electrocoating coating composition wherein the improvement is the addition of a non-water reducible anticrater agent. The non-water reducible anticrater agent is a polyesterurethane that is the reaction product of an aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride, a monofunctional epoxy compound, a monofunctional alcohol and a diisocyanate and/or a polyisocyanate. The improved electrocoating composition provides cured coatings that have fewer craters and have a smooth surface when compared to coatings utilizing other anticrater additives.

Anticrater agent for electrocoating composition

The present disclosure relates to an improved electrocoating coating composition wherein the improvement is the addition of a non-water reducible anticrater agent. The non-water reducible anticrater agent is a polyester that is the reaction product of an aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride, a monofunctional epoxy compound, a monofunctional alcohol and a polyepoxide. The improved electrocoating composition provides cured coatings that have fewer craters and have a smooth surface when compared to coatings utilizing other anticrater additives.

Anticrater agent for electrocoat composition

The present disclosure relates to a coating composition that can be applied to a conductive substrate via an anodic electrodeposition process, a substrate coated with the coating composition and a process for applying the coating to a substrate. The coating composition comprises an aqueous dispersion of at least partially neutralized copolymer comprising &#x3b1;-olefin and unsaturated carboxylic acid. After a layer of the coating has been applied to the substrate, it can be heated to cure the coating and form a crosslinked network that provides a durable chip and corrosion resistant finish.

Electrodepositable composition

An improved aqueous cathodic electrocoating composition that contains an anti-crater agent which is a water-reducible polyester resin having an acid value less than 40 mg KOH/g. The water-reducible polyester is the reaction product of (1) a hydroxy cyclic carbonate; (2) a polycarboxylic acid anhydride; (3) optional monofunctional epoxy resin; (4) a polyfunctional isocyanate resin; and, (5) a polyamine compound containing tertiary amine and either primary or secondary functionality. The reaction product is neutralized in the presence of acid and water to convert the tertiary amine groups to water-dilutable groups. Hydrolyzable silane groups can also be incorporated into the reaction product to further enhance its crater resistance property. The electrocoat composition produces coatings having a smoother appearance with fewer craters without adversely affecting intercoat adhesion of the cured film to subsequent coating layers applied thereover.

Electrodeposited finishes are formed that have reduced volatile emissions and film weight loss when heated to cure.

A cathodic electrocoating composition comprises an aqueous carrier, a film forming binder, comprising an epoxy-amine adduct and a blocked polyisocyanate crosslinking agent, dispersed in the carrier, and a novel additive comprising the reaction product of (1) a polyoxy alkylene di or monoamine; (2) a glycidoxy alkyl alkoxy silane; and (3) a glycidyl compound selected from the group consisting of a glycidyl ester of a carboxylic acid and an alkyl glycidyl ether, which reaction product is hydrolyzed in the presence of acid and water to convert alkoxysilane moieties to silanol moieties. The electrocoat composition produces coatings having a smoother appearance with better edge coverage and fewer craters.

An improved aqueous electrocoating composition that contains an anticrater agent which is a reaction product of polyoxyalkylene diamine and isocyanto alkyl alkoxy silane which is hydrolyzed and has a number average molecular weight of about 2,000-5,000; electrodeposited finishes are formed that have a significant reduction in craters and are smooth and even finishes.
