A method and system of extracting iron oxide from ore is provided, which may include adding a chelating agent to an iron ore to form an iron ore and chelating agent solution, heating the solution to reflux in water, and filtering the solution to yield an extraction residue and a chelated iron solution. The chelated iron solution may be treated with a potassium hydroxide and water solution to yield iron hydroxide.

A training aid for use in training canines to detect an explosive material includes an explosive material adsorbed in the pores of a high surface area mesoporous or nanoporous host material. By adjusting the surfaces of the pores of the substrate material, the substrate can accommodate various types of explosive materials in a non-detonable and non-flammable manner, including nitroaromatics, nitroamines, nitrate-based explosives, and peroxide-based explosives. When the training aid is in an unsealed condition, a continuous flux of explosive material is released without providing any explosive or flame hazard to the trainer and canine.

A method includes combining an aqueous solution of sodium fumarate with an aqueous solution of iron chloride to form a mixture, and obtaining an iron coordination polymer as an amorphous compound formed as a precipitate from the mixture. A passive wireless corrosion sensor is disclosed. A circuit is configured to provide a signal response when energized. An antenna is configured to wirelessly receive energy for energizing the circuit and to receive the signal response from the circuit and transmit the signal response. A corrosion sensitive connector interposes the circuit and the antenna. The corrosion sensitive connector conducts the energy from the antenna to the circuit and conducts the signal response from the circuit to the antenna when in a substantially non-corroded state. The corrosion sensitive connector creates an effectively non conducting link between the antenna and the circuit when in a substantially corroded state.
