A cash box proximity switch arrangement is provided for public telephones and is mounted in an upper portion of a lower housing of the telephone above the vault area. The switch is contained in a sealed housing which prevents contamination from dirt, moisture and the like. A magnet can be arranged so as to provide a bi-stable magnetic circuit between the floor of the lower phone housing and a cash box lid attached to a cash box which has been installed in the vault area of the telephone housing.

A cellular paystation system has a transceiver, paystation and an interface. The cellular paystation system operates to prevent return dial tone fraud by providing from the interface a first dial tone to a calling party using the paystation when an off-hook condition is first detected at the paystation by the interface, and then preventing another dial tone from being provided to the calling party until an on-hook condition of the calling party is detected by the interface at the paystation.

A retainer member uses a simply curved surface to engage the yoke-receiver handset juncture. The retainer member includes a top portion which matches the handset receiver circuitry and includes end portions that engage the substantially circular receiver portion of the handset to provide a further distribution of applied forces. The top portion of the retainer member is provided with an end plug bore or opening having a top surface to prevent the end plug from becoming dislocated within the receiver portion. Also, a separate telephone wire channel is provided to keep separate the telephone wires from the flexible stranded cable thus insuring that no damage will occur to the telephone signal wires when the handset is subsequently stressed.

An internal support plate is inserted on the backing plate of a coinless telephone station to reinforce a projection on the backing plate without any field modification of the station. The internal support plate has a projection which is sized and configured to mate with and thereby reinforce the projection on the backing plate.

An adapter permits a telephone repair technician to attach his data communications equipment to a C-set or D-set pay telephone station without alligator clips by a direct connection with the RJ11 connectors of a data terminal or the like. The adapter can be in the form of a housing having different corner radii and two jacks, one of which is wired in the C-set mode and the other of which is wired in the D-set mode, or one jack and a switch for achieving the C- and D-set modes. The adapter has pins arranged to plug into a standard 11-pin connector in the telephone station lower housing.

A pay telephone station having a lower housing coin chute (14) which is provided with a coin fraud prevention unit (10) in the form of a thin base (15) arranged in a slot (11) of a coin channel cover plate (12). The base (15) is provided with a pawl (23) having a tooth (24) with a chamfered face ( b 25) which is biased into the path of a coin passing through a coin path (39) by a torsion spring (26). An anchor (59) for connecting a handset (56) to the upper housing coin dial unit (50) of the station includes a base with apertures (63, 64) and a V-shaped body (65) with a notch 66 defined between surfaces (69, 70). A long thumbscrew member (74) with a textured gripping surface connects the anchor (59) to a projector (51) integral with the upper housing (50). The handset cord assembly (A) is first passed through an aperture (54) in the projection (51) and then through the aperture (64) in the base (60). A button (68) firmly attached to a lanyard (67) in the armor (55) of the assembly (A) is held against the surfaces (68, 70) by the lanyard (67) and in the notch (66) by the thumbscrew (74) adjacent the button (68). A shorting connector (80) is provided for rapidly changing hook switch configurations in the upper housing coin dial unit (50). A configuration module (90) is used to rapidly and easily connect various circuits (93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99) on a printed circuit board (92) in the upper housing coin dial unit (50).

A pay telephone station having a lower housing coin chute (14) which is provided with a coin fraud prevention unit (10) in the form of a thin base (15) arranged in a slot (11) of a coin channel cover plate (12). The base (15) is provided with a pawl (23) having a tooth (24) with a chamfered face (25) which is biased into the path of a coin passing through a coin path (39) by a torsion spring (26). An anchor (59) for connecting a handset (56) to the upper housing coin dial unit (50) of the station includes a base with apertures (63, 64) and a V-shaped body (65) with a notch 66 defined between surfaces (69, 70). A long thumbscrew member (74) with a textured gripping surface connects the anchor (59) to a projector (51) integral with the upper housing (50). The handset cord assembly (A) is first passed through an aperture ( 54) in the projection (51) and then through the aperture (64) in the base (60). A button (68) firmly attached to a lanyard (67) in the armor (55) of the assembly (A) is held against the surfaces (69, 70) by the lanyard (67) and in the notch (66) by the thumbscrew (74) adjacent the button (68). A shorting connector (80) is provided for rapidly changing hook switch configurations in the upper housing coin dial unit (50). A configuration module (90) is used to rapidly and easily connect various circuits (93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99) on a printed circuit board (92) in the upper housing coin dial unit (50).

Coin fraud preventing unit and modular configurations for pay telephone

A connector adapter is disclosed for making a plurality of electrical connections to a printed circuit board of a personal computer from peripheral equipment. The adapter comprises a plurality of multiple pin connectors in a housing. The housing is releasably mechanically connected to a mounting bracket which, in turn, is releasably mechanically connected to the printed circuit board. The mounting bracket includes a slot formed therein which receives ribbon cables or a connector printed circuit board assembly for connecting each of the plurality of connectors of the adapter to the printed circuit board. Four twenty-five pin D-shell connectors can be provided in a housing of the adapter which occupies the space of only one expansion slot of a personal computer with the housing providing full RFI shielding. No modifications to the computer cabinet are required to accept the connector adapter.
