An electrical transmission safety system for connection of direct current (DC) power from a DC power source to a load comprises: a connection from the power source to the load, the connection comprising a positive terminal and a negative terminal; a first solid state switch electrically connected between the power source and one of the positive terminal and negative terminal; and a switch-control isolation block comprising a first optocoupler, the first optocoupler providing electrical isolation from the power source for generating a first isolated switch-control signal in response to a switch-control input signal, the switch-control isolation block connected to provide the first isolated switch-control signal to the first solid state switch to thereby control an ON or OFF conduction state of the first solid state switch and corresponding current flow between the power source and the load through the one of the positive terminal and negative terminal.

Circuits for photovoltaic applications

Apparatuses, systems, and methods in which reflective slats are configured to redirect light received from various sun positions are provided. The slats or mirrored array could be coupled to a base of the redirector, such that an adjustment of an angle of the base relative to the horizontal adjusts an angle of each slat relative to the horizontal. In some aspects, an algorithm can be used to determine the angle of tilt that maximizes the transmission efficiency for the mirror array.

Light distribution systems and methods

A sunlight redirector has a first mirror array formed of a first plurality of substantially parallel, uniformly spaced, longitudinal outward mirror segments; and a second mirror array formed of a second plurality of substantially parallel, uniformly spaced, longitudinal inward mirror segments. Each mirror segment has a normal vector. The outward mirror segments are adjustably positionable, such that their normal vectors remain parallel. The first mirror array is rotatable about a normal vector of the sunlight redirector. The inward mirror segments may remain fixed in position at all times; or they may be moved, twice per day, between first and second fixed positions.

A tourniquet cuff includes a first sheet, a second sheet, and a seal joining the first sheet and second sheet to form an inflatable bladder. A securing strap is attached to the cuff. The cuff encircles the limb so that the bladder overlaps upon itself. A stiffener fits inside the bladder and sized to extend substantially the length of the bladder but not the entire bladder length, and to fit completely within the seal. A tubular port is connected to the bladder for directing gas into the bladder from a tourniquet instrument to which the port may be releasably connected, and a cuff marking weld is located on an outer surface of the cuff, having a shape selected to form a symbol or indicia that is visible to a user.

Low cost tourniquet cuff with integrated manufacture indicia

A light concentrating apparatus is presented. Disclosed apparatuses include a collection of shaped reflectors capable of redirecting incident light, sunlight for example. The reflectors are configured to modify the spatial distribution of the redirected light in a manner where the distribution of light associated with a first dimension is modified differently than the distribution of light associated with a second, different dimension, via a relay of reflections. Contemplated apparatuses generate a substantially collimated output beam subsequent to the relay of reflections.

Light concentrating apparatus

A light collecting and disseminating apparatus is provided for use in harvesting sunlight from the exterior of a man-made structure, and providing light to the inside of the structure, via an opto-mechanical joint where sunlight would not normally be available. The internal arrangement of the collector allows for improved optical accuracy and performance over prior efforts. The apparatus is also characterized as possessing a low profile so as not to alter the appearance of buildings furnished with the invention. Further, light can be collected from any orientation and redirected through the opto-mechanical joint to a stationary light receiving port independent of the orientation of the collectors.

Opto-mechanical joint assemblies

A low-cost contour cuff for surgical tourniquet systems comprises: a sheath containing an inflatable bladder, the sheath having an arcuate shape, an outer surface and a centerline equidistant between first and second side edges; a securing strap non-releasably attached to the outer surface and formed of substantially inextensible material having a shape that is predetermined and substantially flat, wherein the strap includes a bending portion near a first strap end and a fastening portion near a second strap end, and wherein the bending portion is adapted to allow twisting of the bending portion out of the substantially flat shape to facilitate positioning of the fastening portion into any of a plurality of positions in the substantially flat shape; and fastening means for releasably attaching the fastening portion of the securing strap to the outer surface whenever the sheath is curved into a position for surrounding a limb.

Manufacture of disposable tourniquet cuffs for various non-cylindrical limb shapes

A disposable tourniquet cuff for encircling a patient's limb includes first and second sheets; a gas-tight peripheral seal joining the first sheet to the second sheet around a perimeter of those sheets to form an inflatable bladder within the perimeter. A stiffener fits inside the bladder and is sized to extend substantially the length of the bladder and to fit completely within the peripheral seal. The stiffener is separate from the second sheet and the stiffener surface is welded to the first sheet at a location within the bladder and away from the peripheral seal. A tubular port is provided for directing gas into the bladder from a tourniquet instrument to which the port may be connected. The port defines a passageway therethrough and includes a flange made of a thermoplastic polymer that is compatible for welding the flange to the first sheet.

Disposable tourniquet cuff

A low-cost disposable tourniquet cuff includes: a first sheet formed of flexible material that is impermeable to gas; a second sheet facing the first sheet and formed of flexible material impermeable to gas; a bladder seal joining the first sheet to the second sheet around a perimeter to form an inflatable bladder within the perimeter; port means communicating pneumatically with the bladder and releasably connectable to a tourniquet instrument; stiffener means contained within the inflatable bladder and formed of gas-impermeable material less flexible than the first sheet, wherein the stiffener means has a stiffener width dimension less than the bladder width dimension and is joined to the first sheet to form a non-inflatable portion of the first sheet; and securing means attached to the non-inflatable portion of the first sheet and adapted to allow a surgical user to releasably secure the cuff around the limb at the desired location so that the bladder overlaps upon itself.

Low-cost disposable tourniquet cuff

Low-cost tourniquet cuff apparatus includes: an inflatable bladder formed of flexible material having a bladder width dimension when the bladder is uninflated and a having a bladder length dimension sufficient for encircling a limb of a surgical patient at a desired location on the limb and for overlapping upon itself, wherein the bladder includes a bladder first inner surface facing a bladder second inner surface along the bladder length dimension and across the bladder width dimension when the bladder is uninflated; securing means for securing the overlapping bladder around the limb at the desired location; port means communicating pneumatically with the inflatable bladder and releasably connectable to a tourniquet instrument for supplying the bladder with pressurized gas; and stiffener means having a predetermined stiffness and having a stiffener width dimension less than the bladder width dimension, wherein the stiffener means is non-releasably attached to the bladder first inner surface within the inflatable bladder. The stiffener means may have a stiffener length dimension that is at least equal to the limb circumference. A method of making the low-cost tourniquet cuff allows the cuff elements to be simply assembled and then sealed in one operation using radio-frequency welding or a similar process.

Low-cost disposable tourniquet cuff apparatus and method

Tourniquet apparatus for rapidly and accurately measuring a patient's limb occlusion pressure comprises: an inflatable tourniquet cuff for encircling a limb at a location; a tourniquet instrument releasably connectable to the cuff that includes: pressure sensing means for producing a cuff pressure signal indicative of the level of pressure in the cuff; pressure regulation means communicating with the cuff and responsive to the cuff pressure signal for regulating the pressure in the cuff near a reference pressure level; blood flow transducing means adapted for applying to a portion of the limb distal to the cuff to produce a blood flow signal indicative of blood flow in the portion; and limb occlusion pressure means responsive to the blood flow signal and the cuff pressure signal and operable for detecting arterial pulsations of blood flow, for increasing the reference pressure level in synchrony with the arterial pulsations and for producing a limb occlusion pressure value indicative of the lowest cuff pressure at which the magnitude of the arterial pulsations is less than a minimum detection threshold.
