A system and method are provided which removes bromine biocide used in effluent process streams without the use of chemicals or complex mechanical systems. In particular, the system and method of the present invention remove bromine biocide by photodissociating the bromine, thereby forming innocuous salts. Ultraviolet energy may be used to provide the energy for photodissociation, in particular ultraviolet energy supplied by medium pressure Hg vapor lamps.

Bromine biocide removal

The present invention is directed to the use of a resin trap device to remove large resin particles from water in a water purification system to thereby protect downstream ultrafiltration equipment. The present invention includes a resin trap device which comprises a housing and a resin strainer disposed within the housing. The resin strainer includes a plurality of openings having a particle pass size of between about 100 &mgr;m and about 250 &mgr;m, and thus allows water and small particles to pass through the resin trap device and large particles to be retained in the resin trap device. The present invention also includes a water purification system including a water source, a resin bed and the resin trap device, and a method of purifying water using the resin trap device of the invention.

Resin trap device for use in ultrapure water systems and method of purifying water using same

The present invention is directed to the use a of resin trap device to remove large resin particles from water in a water purification system to thereby protect downstream ultrafiltration equipment. The present invention includes a resin trap device which comprises a housing and a resin strainer disposed within the housing. The resin strainer includes a plurality of openings having a particle pass size of between about 100 &mgr;m and about 250 &mgr;m, and thus allows water and small particles to pass through the resin trap device and large particles to be retained in the resin trap device. The present invention also includes a water purification system including a water source, a resin bed and the resin trap device, and a method of purifying water using the resin trap device of the invention.

An illumination apparatus for indicating the liquid level in a chemical storage tank is provided. The apparatus includes a transparent globe surrounding a light bulb mounted by flanges to upper portions of a storage tank, and being illuminated by an external electrical supply. Optionally the light bulb may be cooled by either allowing gas or air contained in the storage tank pass through a hole in the globe to interact with and cool the light bulb, or supplying a gas to the globe and circulating it around the light bulb. A shadow line is cast at the surface level of the liquid in the tank, and can be visibly seen through the translucent walls of the tank from some distance away.

Apparatus and method for indicating liquid level in a chemical tank

A treatment system for process exhaust streams containing NOx. The system includes a plurality of sequential scrubbing assemblies that collectively receive and contact a process exhaust stream containing NOx and a water stream to produce a product exhaust stream with a concentration of NOx that is below a determined threshold value. The removed NOx forms a portion of a system waste liquid stream that includes a majority of the NOx removed from the process exhaust stream.

Nox scrubbing system and method

A system and method for treating process gas streams containing isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to reduce the concentration of IPA therein. The invented system includes a scrubber unit that receives a process stream containing a concentration of IPA and reduces the concentration of IPA therein to below a determined threshold. The scrubber includes a reverse osmosis assembly that significantly reduces water consumption for the scrubbing process as compared to conventional once-through systems. The system may be operated at an elevated pH to prevent biofouling from inhibiting the operation of the reverse osmosis assembly. The system may contain a softening step on the make up water system to prevent scaling in the reverse osmosis system and a softening step on a sidestream of the scrubber water recirculation loop to reduce scrubber tower salting/scaling and to control the pH of the scrubbing liquid.

Isopropyl alcohol scrubbing system

An ultrapure water purification scheme that incorporates the use of certain RO filtration membranes that are especially susceptible to oxidative attack employs the combination reducing/metals scavenger/biocidal agent dithiocarbamate as a pretreatment additive to maintain a non-oxidizing environment, to bind contaminant metals to improve their removal from source water, and to reduce microbial content. In addition, the generation of oxidants by cavitation effects is avoided by a reduced pressure retentate recycle. Both measures prevent oxidative attack and fouling of the RO membranes.

Water purification system and method

A nitrogen oxide scrubbing process comprises the step of contacting effluent containing nitrogen oxide with an aqueous alkaline peroxide solution. The process may take place in scrubbing towers where the aqueous solution flows countercurrent to the effluent.
