A polymer composition including polymer particles containing a first polymer and a second polymer is disclosed. The first polymer has a crosslinked core and has a glass transition temperature in the range of &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. to 100&#xb0; C. The second polymer containing select crosslinking groups and has a glass transition temperature in the range of &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to less than 18&#xb0; C. A process to prepare the polymer composition is provided. Also provided are a coated article containing a coating prepared from the polymer composition and a method of preparing the coated article. The polymer composition has good low temperature film formation and provides a film with an acceptable level of hardness.

Polymer composition

A method for improving the quality of a mastic coating system by using a solvent-borne tiecoat, and a solvent-borne tiecoat composition are provided. The tiecoat is applied to a substrate in order to correct substrate deficiencies which would cause premature failure of a mastic coating applied directly to the substrate. The mastic coating is then applied to the tiecoat to yield a superior mastic coating composition.

A method for improving the quality of mastic coating system by using a tiecoat which is composed of an aqueous latex-modified asphalt emulsion. Compositions which remain flexible when cured comprising low T.sub.g polymers containing pendant unsaturation, polyfunctional mercaptan, and vanadium compound, are disclosed. The compositions, which cure upon exposure to air and become tack-free rapidly, are especially suitable for roof mastics, coatings, and caulks.

A method is disclosed for stabilizing vinylbenzyl chloride and vinyltoluene against violent decomposition in the presence of iron and chlorine at ambient and above ambient temperatures which comprises contacting the vinylbenzyl chloride or vinyltoluene with an amount of a Lewis base sufficient to inhibit the decomposition during the preparation, purification or storage of said vinylbenzyl chloride or vinyltoluene.
