Embodiments of the disclosure relate to an optical fiber cable. The optical fiber cable includes a cable jacket having a first inner surface and a first outer surface. The first inner surface defines a central bore along a longitudinal axis of the optical fiber cable. The optical fiber cable also includes optical fibers disposed within the central bore and a buffer tube surrounding the optical fibers. The buffer tube has a second inner surface and a second outer surface. The optical fiber cable also includes an armor layer disposed between the first inner surface of the cable jacket and the second outer surface of the buffer tube and a water-blocking adhesive disposed between the armor layer and the first outer surface of the buffer tube. The water-blocking adhesive extends along the longitudinal axis of the optical fiber cable and around a circumference of the buffer tube.

A fiber optic cable includes an optical fiber, strength components disposed on opposite sides of the optical fiber, and a polymeric cable jacket. The optical fiber includes a glass core, a glass cladding, and a polymer coating. The cable jacket surrounds the optical fiber and the strength components. Further, the cable jacket is tightly drawn onto the optical fiber, where excess fiber length of the optical fiber is such that positive strain is present in the optical fiber at room temperature (25&#xb0; C.).

A mid-span optical fiber cable support system is provided. The system includes a mid-span clamp system engaging a main span cable to support a mid-span later drop cable run. The mid-span clamping system includes a main span cable clamp engaging the main span cable, and a drop cable clamp engaging the drop cable. The drop cable clamp is supported from the main span cable such that the second portion of the drop cable extends away from the main span cable such that a load applied by the drop cable at the drop cable clamp is substantially perpendicular to the preferential bend axis of the main span cable. In addition, the main span cable clamp includes a bend strain reducing curved surface.

A system and method of delivering fiber optic communication service is provided. The method includes monitoring a strain signal generated by a strain-sensing optical fiber embedded in a roadway. The method includes comparing the strain signal to a predetermined allowable strain threshold of an optical communication cable associated with the strain-sensing optical fiber. The method includes relieving strain at a position along a length of the optical communications cable when the strain signal is determined to exceed the predetermined allowable strain threshold.

Disclosed are structures and methods for active optic cable (AOC) assembly having improved thermal characteristics. In one embodiment, an AOC assembly includes a fiber optic cable having a first end attached to a connector with a thermal insert attached to the housing for dissipating heat from the connector. The AOC assembly can dissipate a suitable heat transfer rate from the active components of the connector such as dissipating a heat transfer rate of 0.75 Watts or greater from the connector. In one embodiment, the thermal insert is at least partially disposed under the boot of the connector. In another embodiment, at least one component of the connector has a plurality of fins. Other AOC assemblies may include a connector having a pull tab for dissipating heat from the assembly.

A fiber optic cable comprises a core subassembly comprising at least one optical fiber and a tube surrounding the optical fiber. A multi-layered jacket surrounds the core subassembly, wherein the jacket comprises an inner layer comprising a flame retardant (FR) material and an outer layer comprising a non flame retardant material having a lower coefficient of friction than the flame retardant material. A method of manufacturing an optical fiber cable includes providing a core subassembly and co-extruding a multi-layered jacket around the core subassembly, wherein the multi-layered jacket includes an inner layer comprising a flame retardant (FR) material and an outer layer comprising a non flame retardant material having a lower coefficient of friction than the flame retardant.

A cable clamp includes an elongated, open-top base having a first end, a second end, and a central region. A suspension arm extends from the open-top base. An eyelet having an opening, a top portion, and a base portion is coupled to the suspension arm. Suspension clamps for fiber optic cables having a preferential bend are disclosed. The suspension clamp includes a body having a clamping region with a first radius Radjacent to the clamping region and a second radius Radjacent to the first radius Rwhere the first radius is greater than the second radius R. In one embodiment, the suspension clamp is formed from an first (upper) portion having an attachment structure and a second (lower) portion where the body is generally symmetric about the clamping region.

Assemblies include hardened connectors such as plugs and/or receptacles suitable for outdoor plant applications attached to one or more ends of the fiber optic cables for plug and play connectivity.

Armor, configured for use with a fiber optic assembly, includes a dielectric tube having an armor profile and a length, where the dielectric tube has at least one layer formed from a rigid material. The armor profile is undulating along the length, and the armor profile has a band thickness and a web thickness. The band thickness is between about 0.5 millimeters and about five millimeters. The web thickness is less than the band thickness, and the web thickness is greater than or equal to 0.1 times the band thickness.
