A light-weight rigid extrication board having an elongated central section and in-turned sidewalls including one or more planar sections, extending from both sides of the central section, having a plurality of openings formed along the length of both sidewalls, that include an upper opening at the top end of the board, a bottom opening at the bottom end of the board, and an intermediate opening. Straps are secured to each of the openings in the sidewalls, each strap having a fastening buckle at the end of the strap for temporary fastening to one of the other straps. A hoop-shaped halo extends from a top end of the board. The extrication board is slipped behind the driver and the straps secure the extrication board to the back of the driver while seated. Tape can be used to temporarily secure the driver's helmet to the halo during extrication and transport.

Hybrid copolymer compositions include a hybrid copolymer including at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a naturally derived hydroxyl containing chain transfer agent as an end group; and a hybrid synthetic copolymer including one or more synthetic polymers derived from the at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer with at least one initiator fragment as an end group. Fabric softening composition comprising a polymeric viscosity modifier

The present invention relates to novel catalysts for use with a fiberglass non-woven binder. The catalyst can be a Lewis acid, an organic acid salt, a free-radical generator, or a mixture thereof. The catalyst provides stronger bonding, increased crosslinking density, reduced curing times, and reduced curing temperatures. Fiberglass mats made with polymer binder compositions containing the catalyst exhibit both flexibility and elasticity, allowing the mats to be compressed for storage, yet return to original thickness once the compressive forces are removed. Formaldehyde-free wood composites, such as plywood and fiberboard, may also be produced with polymer binder compositions containing the catalyst.

A low color or colorless polymaleate as determined by a Gardner color number of 8 or less, said polymaleate is prepared by aqueous solution polymerization of 70 to 99.9 weight percent of maleic acid, 0.1 to 30 weight percent of an allylic sulfonate monomer, and 0.5 to 50 &mgr;m, based on the moles of monomer, of a polyvalent transition metal ion selected from group consisting of Group IVA, VA, VIA, VIIA, VIIIA, IB, IIB, and combinations thereof, wherein the weight percents are based on the total weight of monomer, provided that 10 to 60 mole percent of the carboxylic acid groups on the maleic acid are neutralized prior to polymerization. The low color or colorless polymaleates provide permanent press properties to textiles treated therewith and increases the resistance of such textiles to laundering abrasion. The polymaleates also may be used in cleaning compositions to disperse and suspend soils.

Use of polyether hydroxycarboxylate copolymers in textile manufacturing and treating processes

A laundry article effective for inhibiting transfer of extraneous dyes and soil to articles in a wash liquor, said laundry article comprising a support matrix and a functionalized polyamine attached to or entrapped in the support matrix. The functionalized polyamine comprises the reaction product of (A) a cyano- or guanidino-containing compound and (B) a polyamine prepared from at least one monomeric amine. The laundry article inhibits dye transfer, soil redeposition, and provides color protection to fabrics in a wash liquor. In addition, the laundry article does not interfere with the removal of stains from fabrics washed in the presence of the laundry article. Furthermore, the laundry article containing the functionalized polyamines are economical and environmentally safe.

Water-treatment compositions are provided which contain a water-soluble, water-treatment polymer and, optionally, additional water-treatment chemicals. The polymers are prepared from water-treatment monomers and a photo-inert, latently-detectable moiety which is covalently bonded to the polymer backbone. When the residue of the photo-inert moiety is contacted with an amount of a photoactivator which is effective to cause the residue of the photo-inert moiety to absorb within a wavelength ranging from 300 to 800 nanometers, the residue of the photo-inert moiety is detectable at concentrations of less than 100 parts per million. Methods are also provided which allow for the determination of the concentration of low levels, i.e., less than 100 ppm, of the water-treatment polymer present in an aqueous system.

A functionalized polyamine comprising the reaction product of (A) a cyano- or guanidino-containing compound selected from the group consisting of cyanamides or salts thereof, dicyanamides or salts thereof, dicyandiamides or salts thereof, guanidines or salts thereof, biguanidines or salts thereof, and combinations thereof, and (B) a polyamine prepared from at least one monomeric amine, wherein the cyano- or guanidino-functional groups are attached to the polyamine or incorporated therein to form the functionalized polyamine, provided that the monomeric amine and the cyano- or guanidino-containing compound are present in the functionalized polyamine in a molar ratio of from 1.1:1 to 100:1, respectively. The functionalized polyamines are especially useful as anti-dye transfer and color protection agents in laundry detergent compositions.

The present invention relates to a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer having pendant polysaccharide moieties. The invention also provides a method for cleaning an article and a method of providing soil resistance to an article using the polymers having pendant polysaccharide moieties. The polymers are useful in cleaning compositions such as laundry detergents, dishwashing detergents, prespotters, fabric softeners, and hard surface cleaners.

Polymers having pendant polysaccharide moieties and uses thereof

Maleate copolymers comprise less than 1% residual total free monomer and have a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 4,000. The copolymer comprises at least 50 mole percent maleate, 10 to 50 mole percent acrylate monomer and 1 to 10 mole percent of at least one non-ionic comonomer. The copolymers are useful in inhibiting deposition of water hardness ions, in detergents and as dispersants in aqueous slurries. Copolymers are prepared by an aqueous solution polymerization process, comprising the steps of initially neutralizing at least 70%, on a molar basis, of the charge of a maleate monomer, followed by the slow addition of at least one polymerizable comonomer, together with an oxidative free radical initiator and a suitable metallic ion reductant, for synthesis over at least a three hour period at 80 to 100.degree. C., followed by the addition of more initiator.

Multifunctional maleate polymers

The water-treatment processes of this invention utilize maleate copolymers to sequester water hardness ions, modify crystal formation in water and inhibit scale formation (e.g., in circulating water systems and oil field production systems), which polymers contain from about 40 to 70 mole percent of dicarboxylic functionality provided by a maleate monomer upon polymerization, from about 1 to about 15 mole percent of the polymerized residue of a non-ionic monomer, and from about 20 to about 50 mole percent of monocarboxylic functionality.
