A computing device and a method for generating relative narration. In one instance, the computing device include a display device displaying a graphical user interface including textual information received from a first application. An electronic processor of the computing device receives a user interface element associated with the textual information scheduled for relative narration. The electronic processor extracts a plurality of entities from the user interface element, converts the plurality of entities into a narrated string using a second application, generates the relative narration of the textual information using the narrated string, and output the relative narration.

A computing device and method for controlling narration. The computing device comprises a display device displaying a visual user interface including textual information, and an electronic processor. The electronic processor executing instructions to identify a plurality of discrete textual data elements included in the textual information, map each of the plurality of discrete textual data elements to an audio data element, generate an implicit audio narration including the audio data element mapped to each of the plurality of discrete textual data elements and at least one of an audible tone and a pause between audio data elements mapped to at least two of the plurality of discrete textual data elements, and output the implicit audio narration.

A beak ribbon system provides a beak-based ribbon user interface with a gliding beak, shifting commands, and an expanding and collapsing beak box. When a user selects a first name of first commands, the beak ribbon system then displays a beak box that has a beak pointing to the first name and that contains the first commands. Upon receiving a selection of a second name of second commands, the beak ribbon system glides the beak in an animated manner from pointing to the first name to pointing to the second name and replaces the first commands in the beak box with the second commands. The beak ribbon system may also shift the second commands in an animated manner from the first identification towards the second identification. The beak ribbon system may also expand and collapse the beak box in an animated manner.

Embodiments provide content attribute adjustment controls that enable the use of a variety of input types when adjusting content attributes such as font sizes, but the embodiments are not so limited. In an embodiment, a computer-based method uses a font size control interface that is configured to accept a variety of input types to adjust font sizes. A handheld device of an embodiment includes at least one application that uses a font size control interface configured with first and second incremental controls, a direct entry control, and/or a scrollable control. Computer storage of an embodiment includes executable instructions that operate to display a font size control interface that accepts inputs via one or more of first and second incremental controls, a direct entry control, and/or a scrollable control. Embodiments provide UI coalescing features that can be used in part to compensate for changes in device configurations, but the embodiments are not so limited. In an embodiment, a computer-based method operates to use UI coalescing features to adjust ribbon and/or popover controls to account for different device configurations. A handheld device of an embodiment can include one or more applications configured with UI coalescing heuristics that operate to dynamically adjust one or more ribbon controls and/or one or more popover controls based in part on a device configuration. Computer storage of an embodiment includes executable instructions that operate to dynamically adjust aspects of an application UI based in part on ribbon and popover control priority values.
