A field transfer imager is erased after every field transfer, prior to a new field of pixels-descriptive charge packet being accumulated in the successive charge transfer stages of the charge transfer channels of the image register. The image register is operated to supply a field of 'null' charge packets for each field of pixel-descriptive charge packets it supplies. The 'null' charge packets and pixel-descriptive charge packets are temporarily stored in respective field storage registers, and converted a line at a time to serial format for sensing. The resulting 'null' samples and pixel-descriptive samples are differentially combined to provide pixel-descriptive samples with suppressed dark current ramp components and, assuming field-rate shuttering of the imager is not used, with suppressed transfer smear components.

A memory system for a television receiver is disclosed. The memory system contains an array of addressable memory cells, each row of which can contain one line of sampled video signals. The number of rows in the array is greater than the number of lines in a frame. Apparatus is included in the memory system for simultaneously writing more than one line of samples into the memory, for simultaneously reading more than one line of samples from the memory, or for both. Simultaneous access to multiple lines allows the reading and writing of multiple corresponding lines of samples from both the current and the prior frame. The row addresses that are used to store the lines of samples for a frame are not the same for each frame, rather the lines of each new frame are stored in rows with lesser addresses than the rows used for the prior frame. This introduces a backward scrolling of the stored image from frame to frame which avoids overwriting data to be used in time-domain or spatial-domain filtering done directly from memory.

In a color TV receiver, color saturation errors associated with flesh tone correction circuits operating on demodulated color mixture signals are corrected. This is accomplished by adding the absolute value of a fraction of one of the color mixture signals to the color mixture signal in quadrature phasing therewith.

First and second transistors of first and second types that can exhibit respective first and second potentials of first and second opposite polarities between their respective input and common electrodes when respective currents flow in conduction paths between their respective output and common electrodes. The transistors are connected in cascade with the input electrode of the first transistor connected to an input point, the common electrode of the first transistor connected to the input electrode of the second, and the conduction path of the second transistor coupled to a load. A circuit for operating the first transistor at the first potential to compensate, at least in part, for the second potential comprises a third transistor of the first type to which is applied a potential of the first polarity between its input and common electrodes to establish a current in its conduction path. A current directly related to the current in the conduction path of the third transistor is applied to the common electrode of the second transistor as substantially the entire current flow in its conduction path.

A switchable current amplifier comprising first and second transistors of complementary conductivity type, an input terminal connected to the emitter electrode of the first transistor, an output terminal to which the collector electrode of the second transistor connects, an inverting current amplifier having an input connection to which the emitter electrode of the second transistor connects and having an output connection to the base electrode of the first transistor. A control circuit is connected to an interconnection between the collector electrode of the first transistor and the base electrode of the second transistor for selectively diverting --in response to a control signal--collector current flow from said first transistor away from flowing as base current to the second transistor, thereby selectively disabling current amplification between the input and output terminals.

Switchable current amplifier

A current mirror amplifier (CMA) and another current amplifier are connected in a degenerative current feedback loop with a point therein which point exhibits a low a-c impedance with respect to a-c ground and provides for sensing signal current applied thereto from an impedance element. The CMA has an input terminal connected to this sensing point, a common terminal connected to a-c ground and an output terminal connected to a constant current source load. The other current amplifier has input and common terminals connected to the CMA output terminal and to the sensing point, respectively, and has an output terminal from which sensed signal current is available.

A three-terminal current amplifier with current-mode feedback to stabilize its current gain to be substantially independent of the common-emitter forward current gains of its component transistors. The feedback connection is made by means of a current splitter which includes a pair of emitter-connected transistors operated at substantially the same absolute temperature, T.
