A method for producing a replaceable fuser member including a thin, seamless or welded high temperature nickel sleeve, a base cushion positioned around the sleeve and an outside topcoat applied over the base cushion elastomer layer. The sleeve is replaceable on a machine mandrel positioned in an electrophotographic copying machine in a fuser section of the electrophotographic copying machine. The method includes the use of a mandrel having a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to that of the sleeve to support the sleeve during positioning of a cured base cushion layer around the sleeve and a cured topcoat layer over the cured base material.

Method for producing a replaceable fuser member

A replaceable fuser member including a thin, seamless or welded high temperature nickel sleeve, a base cushion positioned around the sleeve, a primer coat of a silane coupling agent containing epoxies on the sleeve, and an outside coating applied over the base cushion elastomer layer. The sleeve is replaceable on a mandrel positioned in an electrophotographic copying machine in a fuser station of the electrophotographic copying machine.

Replaceable fuser member

A roller for use in a fuser assembly of a reproduction apparatus adapted to operate at an elevated temperature up to in the range of approximately 750&deg; F. The roller includes a generally elongated substantially cylindrical tube. End gudgeons are provided for sealing the ends of the cylindrical tube. Each of the end gudgeons is respectively associated with an end of the cylindrical tube such that after a weld joint is formed between the cylindrical tube and the end gudgeon, the end gudgeon provides a compression joint to prevent the cylindrical tube from separating from the end gudgeon, due to material creep, at elevated operating temperatures.

A fixing apparatus for electrostatographic reproduction or digital printing comprising: (a) a core (b) a gudgeon friction welded to said core, the gudgeon consisting of through slots or holes in a shoulder of said gudgeon.

Low cost fuser rollers

A gudgeon or endcap for a heated roller is provided which substantially reduces heat loss through the ends of the roller and is of sufficient strength and durability to transmit rotation to the rollers during extensive use. The gudgeon is molded from thermoplastic polyimide filled with 20 to 50 weight percent glass fiber. A roller comprising the gudgeon is also provided.

Durable gudgeons for fusing rollers

A composite gudgeon or endcap for a heated roller is provided which comprises a metal portion and a polymer portion. The gudgeon substantially reduces heat loss through the end of the roller and is of sufficient strength to support and transmit rotation to the roller.

Composite gudgeons and roller assemblies

A fusing member and a method for preparing such a fusing member are disclosed. The method has the steps of conversion coating a support member; applying a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer over the conversion coating; vulcanizing the base cushion; and baking the support member and the base cushion for at least 30 minutes at a temperature in excess of the temperature necessary to vulcanize the base cushion in less than 10 minutes.

Fusing member for electrostatographic reproducing apparatus and method

A fusing member and a method for preparing such a fusing member are disclosed. The method has the steps of conversion coating a support member; applying a base cushion of thermally insulating silicone elastomer over the conversion coating; vulcanizing the base cushion; and baking the support member and the base cushion at a temperature in excess of the temperature necessary to vulcanize the base cushion in less than 5 minutes.

A development station for applying toner to an electrostatic image includes a rotatable magnetic core and a roughened sleeve on which developer moves to develop the image. The outside surface of the sleeve contains fine extrusion-formed serrations, which serrations provide a roughness for the outside surface contributing to movement of developer in response to rotation of the magnetic core.

A fixing mechanism is provided including a heated roller. The heated roller includes a core made of a high thermally conductive metallic material, and a gudgeon for supporting such a core. The gudgeon is made from powder metal stainless steel material that has an interconnected porosity of 20%.

A method of making a bonded permanent magnet including the steps of dissolving, in a solvent, an uncured epoxy resin having an incorporated catalyst which is inactive at a temperature of about 120.degree. F. Particles of a rapidly quenched rare earth-iron-boron alloy are added to the epoxy resin solution. The solution with the particles are mixed at a temperature of about 120.degree. F. until the solvent is removed and the magnetic particles are substantially uniformly coated with the resin. The epoxy coated particles are then cold-pressed into a compact to form a magnet and the epoxy compact is then cured by heating.
