Tablets are prepared with friability reducing agents to yield tablets that are more resistant to breakage or crumbling, but with satisfactory hardness. The friability reducing agents include low molecular weight polyethylene glycol as well as similar agents exhibiting at least three percent (3%) hydroxide moieties and a water solubility of at least eighty percent (80%) (w/w %) in room temperature water. The tablets may comprise an active agent and excipient of almost any type, and about 0.1-about 0.5% by weight friability reducing agent. They exhibit a hardness of at least eighty percent (80%) of the same tablet prepared without the friability reducing agent.

This invention provides an effervescent solid form that dissolves in cold water quickly enough to not disappoint consumers yet not so quickly that the visual interest generated during the effervescent reaction is lost. This performance is achieved by forming effervescent particles that are dense enough to retard dissolution and small enough to not take too long to dissolve. The aim of this invention is to provide a beverage in solid effervescent form that takes between about 30 and about 120 seconds to dissolve in warm water. The granules may carry functional additives such as flavors, vitamins, minerals, sweeteners, colors and drugs. The granules may also be compounded of materials intended to provide relief from skin or topical discomfort, as in the form of a wash or bath additive. The granules may also be formulated to provide cleaning agents, such as ceramic cleaners and denture cleaners.

Effervescent tablets/granules

Effervescent tablets, powders and granules are provided which may be dissolved in water to produce an effervescent rehydrating beverage. The effervescent tablet, powder and granule compositions of the invention deliver electrolytes and carbohydrates at levels that provide hypotonic, isotonic or slightly hypertonic solution when dissolved in water, with acceptable taste.

This invention provides a tablet that effervesces and significantly warms the water that it is dissolved in. The effervescence acts to break up the tablet allowing an exothermic material to rapidly dissolve releasing its heat of solution. The invention is unique in that no organic acid is required to form a conventional effervescent couple.

Organic acid free effervescent formulation

A water soluble, non-abrasive, effervescent, pharmaceutically acceptable, oral care tablet for use in the oral cavity. The tablet includes a carbon dioxide source, a acid source and a tablet forming material admixed to form a chewable tablet having less than 0.2% water. The carbonate to acid ratio ranges from about 2.33:1 to about 3.33:1, the percent by weight of tablet forming material ranges from about 10% to about 70% of the total tablet weight, and the pH of the tablet when dissolved in water to form a 1.0% by weight aqueous solution ranges from about 5.0 to about 7.0. Also included is a flavor imparting flavor agent in an amount sufficient to mask taste sensations derived from the carbon dioxide source, acid source and binder to provide an abrasive-free texture to the tongue in the oral cavity. Other additives are contemplated.

Oral care tablet

A composition for providing aromatherapy, and in particular, symptomatic relief of nasal and sinus congestion is provided in unit dosage format. The composition includes a penetrating aromatic vapor whose release from a preparation of warm water is augmented by an effervescent component which reacts in the warm water to promote release of the aromatic fragrance, or sustained over time by tableting or gelatin encapsulation. As the fragrance is inhaled, symptomatic relief is obtained. The composition of matter may be rendered ingestible, so that the warm water containing the composition is consumed following inhalation. In preferred embodiments, the release of the penetrating aromatic fragrance persists over time.

The sound is created by the release of pressurized carbon dioxide that has been encapsulated in a water-soluble structure. The carbon dioxide gas is released as the encapsulating material dissolves or when it is ruptured by mechanical action. The popping or crackling sound helps create consumer interest by signaling the presence and continued action of the product.

A non-soap cleansing bar of superior lathering, feel and aesthetic characteristics is prepared with a quaternary ammonium surfactant, an anionic surfactant, a waxy binder, a filler and water. The balance of components is maintained so that the mixture can be formed on conventional plodding equipment. Optional elements, such as fragrances, preservatives, colorants, emollients and the like can be added.

A foaming effervescent bath composition is comprised of an effervescent base together with an anhydrous surfactant. The effervescent base may be sodium carbonate and an organic acid, or similar variations. The base is selected so as to provide a composition which has a high dissolution rate, of at least 0.4 g/sec. The product is designed so as to have a low density, not greater than about 1.0 g/cc. Surfactants that exhibit a high viscosity in the presence of low concentrations of salt give particularly good foaming performance. Other agents, such as a colorant, fragrance, humectant, or emollient, may be added.

An aroma releasing composition has an effervescent agent, an exothermic agent and a volatile agent, the effervescent agent and exothermic agent provided in a ratio sufficient to promote release of the volatile agent, when the composition is placed in water. Such a composition has use, alone, in promoting release of fragrance agents, or in combination with a product, such as a body lotion, shampoo or liquid soap.

Amine functionality-containing materials such as cationic cellulose-based compositions are coated to suppress their tendency to generate 'amine odors' in an alkaline pH environment. Further provided are effervescent compositions, liquid or solid soap formulations, fabric softeners, shampoos and the like comprising such materials coated with a suitable coating composition.

A non-soap cleansing bar is provided which exhibits excellent foaming or lathering characteristics, resistance to cracking on drying, and good textural or 'feel' characteristics, which employs a surfactant, filler and waxy binder as essential components. Skin-treatment components, colorants, fragrances and the like may be added as optional components. The bar is produced by a tableting operation that involves melting the waxy binder to obtain excellent wear characteristics and feel.
