The present disclosure describes various embodiments of a concealed or hidden door closer that is installed in a rail of a door assembly. In some embodiments, the door frame and door closer components are configured to allow the door assembly to be readily installed as either a left or a right hand hinged door.

The present disclosure describes various embodiments of a concealed or hidden door closer that is installed in a drip cap of a door assembly. In some embodiments, the door frame and door closer components are configured to allow the door assembly to be readily installed as either a left or a right hand hinged door.

A storm door has first and second elongated, partly curved lock receiving openings formed in respective elongated edges. Each opening is filled in part with a molded hollow insert with an external periphery which matches a periphery of the respective opening. A lock mechanism has a housing with an external periphery that matches, at least in part, an internal periphery of a respective insert. An actuating port in the housing has a central axis, which extends parallel to the respective edge, through the door through which extends a rotatable actuating shaft. An external handle can be attached to the shaft. An unused insert can be closed with a slidably engaging cover.

An exterior frame is formed of extruded, non-metallic stiles, header and base all having a common hollow cross section. The frame can be used in a door or window. The extruded material is a composite of wood fibers and resin which has been cured and has a common cross section. The extruded material can be enclosed within a polyvinyl chloride cap layer.

A storm door construction includes an internal rectangular frame providing a pane opening, the frame including left and right vertical members, a head panel and a base panel. One of the left and right vertical members comprises upper and lower vertical stile pieces and a mortise box located between the upper and lower vertical stile pieces. The mortise box has an opening sized to receive a mortise lock therein. Inside and outside skin panels shaped to cover both sides of said rectangular frame and having rectangular openings substantially in registry with said rectangular pane opening are laminated onto the frame. Both vertical members can include mortise boxes for alternate left or right side mounting of the door in an external doorframe. Each mortise box can comprise upper and lower tongues, and each upper and lower vertical stile pieces can comprise a groove that is sized and shaped to engage a respective tongue of the mortise box. Each mortise box is preferably composed of plastic and the vertical stile pieces are preferably composed of particleboard.

An exterior door incorporates first and second overlays which extend laterally from the sides of the door so as to cover spaces between the door and the respective sides of the door frame. A third overlay can be attached to and extend across the top of the door, perpendicular to the overlays which extend along the sides of the door to cover the space between the top of the frame and the top of the door. The overlays frame, in part, the exterior surface of the door.

An exterior door incorporates at least one moving glass insert or sash slidable in first and second spaced apart tracks. An end of the insert is coupled to an end of a spring biased rolled screen. As the insert moves from the roll, the screen is extracted therefrom providing a continuously variable screened region in the door. The insert can be positioned using a counterbalance or spaced apart latchable locations in the door.

A two track storm door exhibits three track-like features. A rectangular frame defines an open bounded region. A screen fills the open region. Two glass panes, one for each track, are movable independently of one another to close or open the region. A spline secures the screen within the frame and a bearing surface is provided by the spline against which one of the panes bears.

A door or other structural panel of the type which has a pair of opposed, congruent sheets spaced apart by a frame to define a separation space between the sheets which may be filled with a core, such as foam. The edge of each sheet has a zig-zag portion which defines a ledge on the outer side of the sheet and a ridge on the inner side of the sheet. The frame member between the sheets at each edge has on each of two sides a projecting flange and a projecting hook which interlock with the zig-zag portion of the sheets to create a mechanical engagement between the sheets and the frame member. The flow of liquid foam into the separation space is controlled by a rib projecting inwardly from the sheet and by a resilient foam block slightly compressed between the sheets. Methods of manufacturing such panels are provided, including by sliding the beams onto the sheet edges and tapping the beams into a rigid state, and by employing temporary frame members which can be removed and re-used after the foam hardens.
