The preferred embodiment of a double ended fastening system includes a first segment for engaging a component and a second threaded segment for engaging a nut. In another aspect of the present invention, the component has a stud receiving portion made of a polymer or soft metal. A further aspect of the present invention provides a self-drilling and self-tapping feature on the stud.

Double ended fastening system

A stud electrical connection method is provided that employs a stud having a patterned external surface and a nut operably secured to the stud in a radially compressive manner, wherein the patterned external surface of the stud comprises a nonconductive coating on a portion thereof. Accordingly, installation of the nut onto the stud creates an electrically conductive path between an attached conductive member and a panel.

The preferred embodiment of a double ended stud fastening system includes a first segment for engaging a plastic component, a second threaded segment for engaging a nut and a lateral projection disposed between the segments. In another aspect of the present invention, the first segment is threaded and the lateral projection is a flange.

A preferred embodiment of a stud employs a unique thread pattern. A further aspect of the present invention stud includes a body, head and reduced diameter neck configuration. In another aspect of the present invention, the stud is an electrically grounded weld stud. A protective cap is provided for deterring contamination of the threaded portion of a weld stud in still another aspect of the present invention.
