One or more detection activities of a card may allow calculation of rolling speed in motorized readers. Accordingly, the detection activity may result in a data transmission speed with greater accuracy after a determination of position, velocity and/or acceleration of the faster-moving device in relation to the card. Such detection activities may increase a probability of a successful communication sequence.

A detection activity of a card may be sensitive to capacitance changes in one or more pads on the card, where a capacitance change detected in a pad during a first time period does not affect a capacitance change detected in the pad during subsequent time period(s). Accordingly, the detection activity may remain sensitive to a faster-moving device with greater accuracy in a determination of position, velocity and/or acceleration of the faster-moving device in relation to the card. A second detection activity may follow a first detection activity, which may increase a probability of a successful communication sequence subsequent to the first detection activity.

Systems and methods for non-time smearing detection mechanisms for magnetic cards and devices

Programming fixtures are provided that program devices, such as payment cards, with data, such as personal data, using light transmitters and receivers. A code sequence may be entered into the devices to transition the devices into one of several test modes. Pressing a button may cause diagnostic data to be communicated by the device. Pressing another button may cause default data to be communicated by the device. A personalization test module may capture the diagnostic data and/or default data to document and/or verify operation of the device.

Programming and test modes for powered cards and devices

One aspect of the invention relates to an assembly comprising a plurality of bins with a plurality of lids associated therewith. Each of the bins has a lock assembly that includes a catch operable to lock the lid in its closed position and a mechanical indicator responsive to the catch. Another aspect of the invention relates to an automated dispensing cabinet that includes a control computer and a plurality of drawers having a plurality of row assemblies therein. Each row assembly has bins that include a tabbed lid, a lock assembly with a catch operable to engage and disengage the tab, and an indicator responsive to the lock assembly. Methods for dispensing from and restocking the remote dispensing systems are also given, as well as a method for indicating which item is to be dispensed from one of a plurality of bins.

A drawer for use in a dispensing cabinet is comprised of a tray movable between an open position and a closed position. An insert, approximately the length of the tray, is carried by the tray and defines the volume of the drawer. A lockable or sealable lid is carried by the insert. A release mechanism is provided to connect the insert to the tray in a manner that allows the insert to be easily disconnected from the tray. Removal of the insert enables inserts to be swapped so that inserts from which inventory has been depleted can be replaced with stocked inserts. A dispensing cabinet and a method of restocking the cabinet are also disclosed.

A blister package with a hole in it for hanging the package on a rod has a thin plastic front sheet attached to back and a raised receptacle or blister is formed in the plastic sheet sized to enclose an article. The plastic sheet further has a raised formation near each top corner on the front of the blister package. The raised formation is shaped to space the package from an adjacent package when hung on a rod and to resist getting caught on the top edge of an adjacent blister package if the package is rotated about the rod. The raised formation has a peak and sloping sides extending from the peak toward the edges of the package. The profile is generally smooth such that there are no ledges to catch on the top edge of an adjacent blister pack. The hole is located a first distance from the top edge of the blister package and each projection is spaced a second distance from the hole. The second distance is made less than the first distance such that if the blister package were rotated 90 degrees a raised formation could not get caught on the top edge of an adjacent blister package. Preferably a bar code is provided on the outside of the back where it can be read by a bar code reader.
