An attenuator dome for a ball valve includes a body defining an upstream surface and a downstream surface. The body has first and second attenuation sections. The first attenuation section has a single stage with a first plurality of passages extending from the upstream surface to the downstream surface. The second attenuation section has a first stage with a second plurality of passages extending from the upstream surface to a first plenum formed inside the body and a second stage with a third plurality of passages extending from the first plenum to the downstream surface. The single stage of the first attenuation section has first flow area percentage, the first stage of the second attenuation section has a second flow area percentage less than the first flow area percentage, and the second stage has a third flow area percentage greater than the second flow area percentage.

An apparatus for noise reduction in valves is disclosed. A disclosed example valve includes a valve body including a fluid passageway, and a cage located in the fluid passageway, the cage including a wall having openings, a fluid to flow from an inner surface of the wall to an outer surface of the wall through the openings, each of the openings including respective ribs, the ribs to follow a helical path along a length of each opening to cause rotation of the fluid flowing through the openings.

Apparatus for noise reduction in valves

A fluid valve includes a valve body having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. A fluid passageway connects the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. A trim assembly is located within the fluid passageway and the trim assembly cooperates with a control member to control fluid flow through the fluid passageway. The trim assembly includes a cage and a cage retainer. The cage retainer is located downstream of the cage and the cage retainer and the cage are aligned longitudinally within the fluid passageway. The cage retainer includes a side branch resonator array.

A control valve has a body having an inlet and outlet, a valve seat between the inlet and outlet, a valve plug, and a cage adjacent the valve seat to provide guidance for the valve plug. The valve plug is movable between a closed position, where the valve plug sealingly engages the valve seat, and an open position, where the valve plug is spaced away from the valve seat. The cage has a solid, unitary circumferential wall having inner and outer surfaces and a plurality of passages formed through the wall. Each passage extends between the inner and outer surfaces and follows an arcuate, non-linear path from the inner surface to the outer surface.

A flow stabilizer adapted to be disposed in an outlet passage of a rotary valve includes a main body having an axis, a first end, and a second end. A first shell is disposed at least partially within the main body, and the first shell includes an axis, a first end, and a second end. A second shell is disposed at least partially within the main body and at least partially within the first shell, and the second shell includes an axis, a first end, and a second end. The axis of the first shell is angled relative to the axis of the main body and the axis of the second shell is angled relative to axis of the main body.

A ball valve may include a control element including a perforated screen disposed within the control element and spaced apart from an inner surface of the control element to form an annular space and a plurality of chambers disposed within the control element. When fluid flows through the control element, sound waves pass through the perforated screen and are reflected back by the plurality of chambers to disrupt other sound waves, thereby reducing fluid noise in the rotary valve.

A fluid valve includes a valve body having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet connected by a fluid passageway. A valve seat is disposed within the fluid passageway. A fluid control member is movably disposed within the fluid passageway, the fluid control member cooperating with a trim assembly to control fluid flow through the fluid passageway. The trim assembly includes a cage having a plurality of openings that characterize fluid flowing through the cage and a plurality of chevrons surrounding each opening that suppress noise generated by the plurality of openings.

A control valve has a body having an inlet and outlet, a valve seat between the inlet and outlet, a valve plug, and a cage adjacent the valve seat to provide guidance for the valve plug. The valve plug is movable between a closed position, where the valve plug sealingly engages the valve seat, and an open position, where the valve plug is spaced away from the valve seat. The cage has a circumferential wall having inner and outer surfaces and a plurality of passages formed through the wall. Each passage can have a first portion extending from the inner surface and a second portion extending from the outer surface, where the second portion has a diameter smaller than that of the first portion, can follow a non-linear path from the inner to outer surface, and/or can have a cross-sectional area that varies from the inner to outer surface.

A fluid valve includes a valve body having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet connected by a fluid passageway. A valve seat is disposed within the fluid passageway. A fluid control member is movably disposed within the fluid passageway, the fluid control member cooperating with a trim assembly to control fluid flow through the fluid passageway. The trim assembly includes a cage having a plurality of openings that characterize fluid flowing through the cage and a plurality of vents that suppress noise generated by the plurality of openings.

Noise reducing diffuser trim

A modal attenuator includes annular chambers disposed between an attenuator body and a perforated screen surrounding a primary flow path. The modal attenuator in some arrangements is in the form of an expander section. In some arrangements one or both of the height and the width of the annular chambers may vary along the length of the attenuator body such that the volumes of the chambers vary along the length of the attenuator body. Each chamber preferably has an open end facing the perforated screen such that acoustic waves passing through the perforated screen can enter into the chamber through the open end.

Modal attenuator

A stackable noise attenuating disk includes an inner perimeter edge and an outer perimeter edge. A plurality of inlet passages is disposed along the inner perimeter edge and a plurality of outlet passages disposed along the outer perimeter edge. The plurality of outlet passages includes first outlet passages having a first width and second outlet passages having a second width, which is greater than the first width. Each of the plurality of outlet passages defines a longitudinal axis that is offset by a predetermined angle from a radial axis extending through a corresponding outlet passage. The plurality of inlet passages and the plurality of outlet passages are arranged such that fluid entering one of the plurality of inlet passages exits through at least one of the plurality of outlet passages.

A modal attenuator may include an attenuator body having a lead-in segment and a lead-out segment joined by a connection segment, a perforated screen disposed within the attenuator body and spaced apart from the attenuator body to form an annular space, and a plurality of rings disposed between the perforated screen and the attenuator body. When fluid flows through the modal attenuator, sound waves pass through the perforated screen and are reflected back by the plurality of rings to disrupt other sound waves, thereby reducing fluid noise in the modal attenuator.

A stackable noise attenuating disk includes an inner perimeter edge and an outer perimeter edge. A plurality of inlet passages is disposed along the inner perimeter edge and a plurality of outlet passages is disposed along the outer perimeter edge. The plurality of outlet passages includes a plurality of first outlet passages and a plurality of second outlet passages. Each of the plurality of first outlet passages have a first width and each of the plurality of second outlet passages have a second width that is greater than the first width. Fluid entering the inlet passages passes through a plenum section of adjacent disks to exit through the first and second outlet passages. The first outlet passages and second outlet passages cooperate to disperse the noise peak frequencies of fluid exiting the plurality of outlet passages, thereby reducing the overall noise level of fluid exiting the plurality of outlet passages.

A method results in a system configuration wherein positioning a plurality of spargers reduces noise levels caused by fluid passing through the plurality of spargers. The method includes providing the plurality of spargers, each sparger having a center line access and an outer diameter measurement. Each of the plurality of spargers is positioned in a manner such that a ratio of the distance between the center line access of each sparger to the outer diameter measurement of each sparger is greater than a pre-determined ratio value. A greater ratio results in a reduction of noise emitted.
