A process for producing E-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene comprises contacting 1,1,2,4,4-pentachlorobuta-1,3-diene with hydrogen fluoride in the vapor phase in the presence of a fluorination catalyst. A process for producing Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene further comprises contacting E-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene with chlorine in the presence of a catalyst to produce 2,3-dichloro-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane, followed by reaction with base to produce 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butyne, and subsequently hydrogenating hexafluoro-2-butyne to produce Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene.

Process for producing 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene

Processes for producing Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene and intermediates for producing same

A process is disclosed for making CFCF═CHF. The process involves reacting CFCClFCClF with Hin a reaction zone in the presence of a catalyst to produce a product mixture comprising CFCF═CHF. The catalyst has a catalytically effective amount of palladium supported on a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, fluorided alumina, aluminum fluoride and mixtures thereof and the mole ratio of Hto CFCClFCClF fed to the reaction zone is between about 1:1 and about 5:1. Also disclosed are azeotropic compositions of CFCClFCClF and HF and azeotropic composition of CFCHFCHF and HF.

Processes for producing Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene and intermediates for producing same. A process for producing 2-chloro-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane comprises contacting 1,1,2,4,4-pentachlorobuta-1,3-diene with HF in the liquid phase in the presence of a fluorination catalyst. A process for producing 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane comprises contacting 2-chloro-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane with a chlorine source. A process for producing 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butyne comprises contacting 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane with a base. A process for producing Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene comprises contacting 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butyne with hydrogen.

A process is disclosed for making CFCFCH, CFCF═CHand/or CFCCl═CH. The process involves reacting at least one starting material selected from the group consisting of halopropanes of the formula CXCHCHX, halopropenes of the formula CXCH═CHand halopropenes of the formula CX═CHCHX, wherein each X is independently F or Cl, with HF and Clin a reaction zone to produce a product mixture comprising HF, HCl, CFCFCH, CFCF═CH, and CFCCl═CH; and recovering the CFCFCH, CFCF═CHand/or CFCCl═CHfrom the product mixture. Also disclosed is a process for making CFCHCHF, CFCH═CHF, and/or CFCH═CHCl. This process involves reacting at least one starting material selected from the group consisting of halopropenes of the formula CXCH═CHand halopropenes of the formula CX═CHCHX, wherein each X is independently F or Cl, with HF and Clin a reaction zone to produce a product mixture comprising HF, HCl, CFCHCHF, CFCH═CHF and CFCH═CHCl; and recovering the CFCHCHF, CFCH═CHF, and/or CFCH═CHCl from the product mixture. The molar ratio of HF to the total amount of starting materials fed to the reaction zone for both of these processes is at least stoichiometric, and the molar ratio of Clto total amount of starting material fed to the reaction zone for both of these processes is 2:1 or less.

Processes for the production of fluoropropanes and halopropenes

A process is disclosed for making CFCF&#x2550;CHF. The process involves reacting CFCClFCClF with Hin a reaction zone in the presence of a catalyst to produce a product mixture comprising CFCF&#x2550;CHF. The catalyst has a catalytically effective amount of palladium supported on a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, fluorided alumina, aluminum fluoride and mixtures thereof and the mole ratio of Hto CFCClFCClF fed to the reaction zone is between about 1:1 and about 5:1. The present invention relates to fluoroolefin compositions. The fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention are useful as refrigerants or heat transfer fluids and in processes for producing cooling or heat. Additionally, the fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention may be used to replace currently used refrigerant or heat transfer fluid compositions that have higher global warming potential.
