A filter includes a housing having a cavity. A media pack, which includes a filter media, is arranged within the cavity and includes a central opening extending between opposing ends of the media pack. A center tube is arranged within the central opening and extends out of the central opening beyond one of the ends to provide a first end. A relief valve is supported on the first end. The filter cartridge assembly is installed into the housing with the relief valve in sealing engagement with a tapping plate of the housing. The relief valve performs the function of a seal between the filter cartridge assembly and the tapping plate in addition to performing pressure relief functions.

A filter is provided having a housing that includes a cavity. A center tube includes first and second ends spaced from one another. A seat extends radially from the center tube and is arranged between the first and second ends. A media pack is arranged within the cavity and supported on the seat such that the center tube extends through a central opening of the media pack. An anti-drainback valve is supported on the seat and is in sealing engagement with the center tube and the media pack. The housing includes a tapping plate that provides an inlet and outlet. An annular lip of the anti-drainback valve is in sealing engagement with the tapping plate when in a closed position in which the engine is shut off.

A filter media includes a media pack having a central opening that extends between opposing ends of the media pack. A support member, such as a center tube, extends through the central opening and supports one of the opposing ends. A second support member, such as a guide, is secured to the second support member and supports the other of the opposing ends. The guide loads the components within the filter to provide desired sealing. The guide is provided by flexible plastic tabs in one example and by an elastomeric grommet in another example.

Use of non-metallic load devices in liquid filters

A filter media includes a media pack having a central opening that extends between opposing ends of the media pack. A support member, such as a center tube, extends through the central opening and supports one of the opposing ends. A second support member, such as a filter cartridge assembly guide, is secured to the second support member and supports the other of the opposing ends. In one example, the center tube includes a seat that extends radially outwardly from an axially body of the center tube to support the media pack. The first and second support members are secured by an interlocking connection of any suitable configuration. The disclosed arrangement can be used to reduce the number of components required for providing a large number of filter cartridge assembly. Each of a plurality of media packs provide different heights. A first support member is selected to support one of the opposing ends. A second support member is selected to accommodate the height of the selected media pack. The first and second support members cooperate with one another to support the opposing ends of the media pack.

A filter for a fluid system includes a housing having an interior cavity. A filter media is disposed in the housing and defines a central opening. A center tube assembly is arranged within the central opening and includes discs which are stackable upon one another. Each disc includes a central portion having base received by an inner wall of the central portion of the adjacent disc. An outer portion extends radially outwardly from the central portion and is positioned adjacent to the filter media. The central portion, base, and outer portion may include openings to permit the flow of fluid through the center tube assembly. The center tube assembly provides the desired structural integrity while permitting fluid to flow through the center tube. The present invention center tube assembly may be produced by a plastic molding process.

A fluid filter apparatus includes a filter element located in a filter chamber formed in a filter housing. A valve unit is located in a passageway formed in the filter housing to control flow of fluid into or out of the filter chamber.

A hydrocarbon adsorbing device capable of adsorbing or absorbing and subsequently releasing hydrocarbons in the induction system of a motor vehicle. In one embodiment, the hydrocarbon adsorbing device includes an inner cylinder of hydrocarbon adsorbing material and an outer cylinder of hydrocarbon adsorbing material. The inner cylinder is located within the outer cylinder. The hydrocarbon adsorbing device also includes an intermediate member of hydrocarbon adsorbing material that is located between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. The intermediate member may be attached to both the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder and be folded in a pleated fashion. In one embodiment, the intermediate member extends completely about the inner cylinder. The hydrocarbon adsorbing device may also include a flange attached to and extending outwardly from the outer cylinder for use in locating the hydrocarbon adsorbing device in the induction system.

An oil filter assembly comprising: an oil filter housing defining an oil filter chamber adapted to receive an oil filter element, the oil filter housing also defining a port; and a valve assembly received within the port, the valve assembly having a closed position and an open position for draining the chamber of oil associated with the oil filter element, the valve assembly comprising a spring, a valve and a casing disposed about the spring and the plunger. The casing may include a substantially annular lip retaining the valve in engagement with the casing. The casing defines a casing chamber and the lip retaining a collar of the valve within the casing chamber. The lip also may define a hole for receiving the stem or, in accordance with an alternative embodiment, for receiving a post or the like associated with the oil filter element. A method is also provided of producing an oil filter assembly having a housing defining an oil filter chamber adapted to receive an oil filter element. The method comprises the steps of: disposing a casing about a spring and a valve; forming a lip on a leading edge of the casing for retaining the valve in engagement with the casing; and inserting the casing into a port defined by the housing.

Oil filter assembly

A fluid filter assembly includes a shroud containing a filter module. A fluid pump is coupled to the shroud and operated to draw transmission fluid from a fluid reservoir in a transaxle housing into the shroud and through the filter module in the shroud to produce a stream of filtered transmission fluid to be pumped to a transmission or other destination in the transaxle housing. The shroud includes a filter housing containing the filter module and a mount flange cantilevered to the filter housing and adapted to mate with the fluid pump.

An oil filter apparatus comprises a housing formed to include an interior region and an aperture, a drainage valve positioned in the interior region for movement relative to the housing between an opened position allowing oil to drain out of the interior region through the aperture and a closed position blocking drainage of oil out of the interior region through the aperture, a filter module positioned in the interior region to filter oil, a valve actuator coupled to the filter module, and an anti-rotation device positioned to block rotation of the filter module relative to the housing to guide the valve actuator into communication with the drainage valve to move the drainage valve to the closed position when the filter module is installed in the interior region.
