A compound is prepared, suitable for forming fluoroelastomers, having the unique features of a low glass transition temperature and desirable permeation resistance. The compound generally comprises two primary components. The first component is an amorphous copolymer including interpolymerized units derived from one or more perfluorinated ethers. The second component is a curable component including at least one filler having at least 10 parts per 100 parts of the first component. Upon vulcanization the resulting elastomeric compound has desirable physical characteristics as indicated by the durometer, the retraction at lower temperatures (TR-10) and permeation resistance.

Fluoroelastomers with improved permeation resistance and method for making the same

The present invention is based on quad-fluoropolymer suitable for the preparation of a fluoroelastomer. The fluoropolymer comprises repeating units derived from 10 to 40 mol % of tetrafluoroethylene, 40 to 65 mol % of vinylidene fluoride, 1 to 30 mol % of a perfluorinated vinyl ether of the formula CF&#x2550;CFOCFCFCFOCF, 1 to 20 mol % of perfluoromethyl vinylether.

Fluoroelastomers having low temperature characteristics and solvent resistance

Provided is a co-curable blend comprising (a) a fluoroplastic comprising (i) bromine atoms, iodine atoms, and combinations thereof, and (ii) units derived from a fluorinated monomer, and a peroxide curable fluoroelastomer gum. The invention also provides a composition comprising a fluoroplastic comprising (i) bromine atoms, iodine atoms, and combinations thereof and (ii) units derived from a fluorinated monomer, peroxide curable fluoroelastomer gum, a peroxide curative, and optionally a coagent. The fluoroplastic has an MFI no greater than 5 g/10 min., and/or an average particle size greater than 100 nm. The invention also provides a method of making a fluoropolymer blend and cured articles.

Perfluorinated acid fluorides and preparation thereof

A fluorocarbon polymer which includes: repeating units derived from one or more perfluorinated ethers of the formula CF,&boxH;CFO&mdash;(CF,),&mdash;(O(CF,),),&mdash;OR,wherein R,is a perfluorinated (C,-C,)alkyl group, m&equals;1-4, n&equals;0-6, and p&equals;1-2; and repeating units derived from vinylidene fluoride; wherein the polymer has a glass transition temperature of &minus;50&deg; C. or lower and an oxygen to carbon ratio of at least about 0.2.

Low temperature fluorocarbon elastomers

The present invention describes a novel process for the preparation of perfluoro allyl ethers. The process involves providing a hydrogen-containing precursor comprising at least one 1,2-dichloro alkyl ether moiety, fluorinating the precursor to provide a perfluorinated intermediate, and dechlorinating the perfluorinated intermediate to the corresponding perfluorinated ether. A reaction product of a perfluorinated olefin and an allyl ether may also be used as a precursor. Such a reaction product is chlorinated before the fluorination step. Perfluoro vinyl or allyl ethers may be used in place of the perfluorinated olefin. Novel perfluoro alkoxy compounds are also described.

Fluorine containing allylethers and higher homologs

The present invention describes a novel process for the preparation of perfluorovinyl ethers. The process involves providing a hydrocarbon precursor that may be partially halogenated, fluorinating the precursor to provide a perfluorinated intermediate, and converting the perfluorinated intermediate to the desired perfluorinated ether. Novel perfluorovinyl ethers are also provided.

Fluorine containing vinyl ethers

Compositions and techniques useful to effectively recycle crosslinked (i.e., vulcanized or cured) fluoroelastomers are disclosed. The invention utilizes an additive system that includes a cure-enhancing additive, a crosslinking agent, and an accelerator.

Recycle of vulcanized fluorinated elastomers

A compound having the formula: ##STR1## where Q is an onium ion; A.sup.- is a counterion; R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4, independently, comprise (a) a non-fluorinated alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl group; (b) an onium-containing group; or (c) a group having the formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Y--R.sup.5 in which n is at least two; Y is a spacer arm comprising a --CH.sub.2 --, --O--, --OCH.sub.2 --, --S--, --SO.sub.2 --, or --Z--SO.sub.2-- group; Z is an --R.sup.6 --O--, --N(R.sup.7)--, or --N(H)-- group; R.sup.6 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene group; R.sup.7 is a non-fluorinated alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or alkaryl group; and R.sup.5 is a fluorinated group, perfluorinated group, or combination thereof, with the proviso that (i) at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 comprises a group having the formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Y--R.sup.5 ; (ii) the total number of fluorine atoms in said compound is at least 5; and (iii) when Q is a sulfonium ion, there is no R.sup.4 group. The invention further includes curable compositions comprising vinylidene fluoride-containing polymers and the above-described compounds, as well as a method for curing such compositions.
