A method for aggregating data in database tables. A computer receives a request to create an aggregation object comprising a set of related tables and aggregation rules. The computer system creates an aggregation object comprising multiple tables with related key and data columns and managed as a single entity with a single definition. Upon receiving data in the form of a new, inserted, or updated row, the computer system automatically aggregates the data to all objects in the aggregation object hierarchy by creating a summarized row for the current table using the inserted, merged or updated row and defined aggregation rules for each object.

Automatically aggregating data in database tables

A database management system provides row based filtering of data at a database level by evaluating content of at least one record of a write data request received from an application for a particular table from among at least one table of a database, against at least one filter rule specified for the particular table. The database management system selects, for the at least one record, whether to store the at least one record of the write data request as a separate row in the particular table based on a separate action triggered for the at least one record when evaluated against the at least one filter rule specified for the particular table, each record not selected for storage being silently discarded.

Row-based data filtering at a database level

In managing a relational database, a relational manager sets a foreign key lookup value to an unavailable state in a source table row containing each of a foreign key value and the foreign key lookup value in a source table in a relational database, wherein the foreign key value references a primary key value in a referenced row in a separate destination table in the relational database. The relational manager, responsive to looking up, for the foreign key value, in a data structure separate from the source table, a location of the referenced row in the relational database, when the foreign key lookup value is set to the unavailable state, updating the foreign key lookup value with the location, wherein the foreign key lookup value in the source table is looked up for identifying the location of the referenced row for subsequent retrievals of the referenced row for the foreign key value.

Managing record location lookup caching in a relational database

According to embodiments of the present invention, two or more attributes that are included in a plurality of attributes are aggregated into a group defined by a first data definition language syntax. The first data definition language syntax defines the group as having a groupID and one or more of an attribute definition defined in a comma-separated list and a group definition. The attribute definition is defined by a second data definition syntax. The first data definition language syntax includes the second data definition language syntax. The first data definition language syntax is structured in a manner to allow a database operation associated with the group to be applied to all attributes and/or groups included therein.

Grouping data in a database

A method for migrating data between tables. The method includes, receiving a Structured Query Language (SQL) statement, where the SQL statement identifies a source table and a destination table, and the source table contains source data divided into columns with a set of column names. A database management system identifies a set of instructions for manipulating the source data. The database management system generates an interim SQL statement, based on the SQL statement. The database management system executes the interim SQL statement, which copies the manipulated source data into a set of columns of the destination table.

Data migration and table manipulation in a database management system

An approach is provided that receives an alteration request to mark a selected column in a database table as an unused column. A database control table is then updated to indicate that the selected column is unused. After the database control table is updated, when a read request is received for the selected column, the same data is returned for the selected column for each row being read and this data is not stored in the database table.

Adaptive relational database access

In an approach for locating, preserving, and receiving registers, a register located within a central processing unit is modified a preservation bit, wherein the preservation bit designates when the register is to be preserved. The preservation bit of the register is activated. A preservation bit requests a subroutine to access content held on the register. A register is pushed to a memory source. The bitmask is pushed to a memory source, wherein the bitmask contains information regarding the content pushed to the memory source. The bitmask is popped, at the request of the subroutine, to determine that that content is to be popped. The content is popped from the memory source to the register. The content is returned from the subroutine.

Efficient register preservation on processors

Activating a screen capture tool in a display adapter to capture information on a display. An operating system sends a command to the display adapter to initiate the capture of information from the graphical user interface of a display. The display adapter captures the information on the graphical user interface of the display. The information may be stored by the display adapter to a storage device that may be connected to the display adapter. The display is monitored for additional changes. Any changes that occur to the information on areas of the display may be captured and stored to the storage device. The operating system may enable the display adapter to retrieve the information stored in the storage device and/or play back the information retrieved to the display.

Video capture through hardware

An approach is provided to copy records between tables in a relational database. In the approach, a Structured Query Language (SQL) table COPY statement is received with the COPY statement identifying a source table and a target table. Table column names are retrieved from a metadata that corresponds to the source table. The retrieved table column names are used to generate an SQL statement that includes an INSERT INTO clause pertaining to the target table and a SELECT clause pertaining to the source table, wherein the INSERT INTO clause includes a set of target column names and wherein the SELECT clause includes a set of corresponding source column names.
