Connections between batteries and impedance measuring circuitry in a system for on-line measurement of battery cell impedance is effected by twisted wire triplets.

Noise reduction in an on-line battery impedance measurement system

Apparatus for measuring the total internal resistance of a multicell battery having positive and negative terminals employs a first transistor device having an input and an output and having mutually exclusive conductive and non-conductive electric states. An arrangement of resistances is connected in series with the device to form a network. The network is connected between the positive and negative terminals. An operational amplifier has an output connected to the input of the device and first and second inputs. The first input is connected to the network at a point connected to both of the device and the arrangement. A square wave signal alternating between a positive voltage and ground on alternate half cycles is applied to the second input. The device is in the conductive state when the alternating voltage is positive and is in the non-conductive state when the alternating voltage is at ground. The network conducts no current when the device is in the non-conductive state and conducts a current of constant value when the device is in the conductive state. The voltage appearing between the terminals as a result of the current in the network is monotonically related to the internal resistance of the battery.

A speed controlling circuit for an alternating current powered blower motor is disclosed in which rectified direct current voltages are manipulated, regulated responsive to ambient temperature, and compared so as to provide reliable and cost effective blower speed control in proportion to ambient temperature and low blower speed cut off.

A control for a sewing machine is provided with a turnable outer knob for operating a potentiometer, and a slidable inner knob within the outer knob for moving a contact member to connect conductive paths on a printed circuit board which supports both the potentiometer and contact members.

A sewing machine is provided with a hinging system which supports information bearing plates and a cover therefor. The plates are confined and concealed in a recess in the machine when the cover is closed and can pivot between positions in the recess and positions opposite the rear side of the cover when the cover is open.

A touch sensitive control panel is disclosed which is constructed of a support surface and a graphic display member secured thereto. The support surface has regions of conductive material deposited thereon and the graphic display member has functional indicia printed thereon, there being a layer of adhesive intermediate the graphic display member and the support surface to secure the graphic display member to the support surface with the functional indicia in registration with the conductive material regions. The graphic display member and the adhesive layer form a dielectric medium between the conductive material and a body portion of an operator touching the front surface of the graphic display member. An improved method for manufacturing such a touch panel is also disclosed.

For a zigzag sewing machine having a buttonhole presser device allowing formation of a buttonhole in a single step, a method for insuring that the presser device is in its initiating position by determining where the movable portion of the presser device is and, if it is not in its correct position, to adjust feeding action required to move it to its correct position.

An optical buttonhole switching arrangement in which the movement of reflective means carried on a moveable buttonhole foot are sensed as the foot is moved by the fabric feeding movement of a feed dog against the garment being sewn. The foot includes adjustable optical targets whose movement may be sensed by a photosensor carried on the sewing head. The spacing of the optical targets may be manually adjusted to accommodate buttons of different sizes. The photosensor is connected to an electronic circuit whose output may be used to control the retrieval of buttonhole stitching information from an electronic memory.

A light detector is supported in a mask box which extends into the cavity accommodating the looptaker with an edge of the surface adjacent the looptaker and upstream to the air currents generated by the looptaker closer to the looptaker than an edge downstream in order to discourage lint build up on the adjacent surface. A light source is fashioned with a lens projecting into the cavity accommodating the looptaker similarly to discourage lint build up.

A linear motor for use, for example, in sewing machines for controlling needle vibration as to amplitude and/or fabric feed both in magnitude and direction, said motor comprising a frame having an internal central pole piece spaced intermediate two permanent magnets of the high energy product type which are attached to the frame, the central pole piece providing supporting means for movable coil member integrally formed with connecting arms pivotally fastened to an actuator arm carried on a pivoted potentiometer shaft. The permanent magnets are secured through their own magnetism to the frame and are each locked in proper orientation by a non-metallic retainer which is locked to the magnet and additionally formed with a closure panel, said closure panels cooperating with the motor frame completely to enclose a compartment for the movable coil member effecting both a minimum external leakage field and a dust proof unit.
