An archery compound bow having a riser to support accessories is provided with a keyway positioned at the location for attachment of a bracket to support an accessory. The bracket is also provided with a keyway; a key is positioned to nest in the respective keyways when the bracket is attached to the riser. The bracket is secured to the riser using screws or other conventional fastening means with the key extending into the keyways to position the bracket and maintain the position of the bracket on the riser.

Apparatus for adjusting the vertical placement of a bow sight on an archery bow is provided with a belt extending over a drive pulley and an idler pulley. A sight mount is secured to the belt for movement therewith between the pulleys and a sight is attached to the sight mount. A sight adjustor lock locks the sight in position by preventing rotation of the drive pulley.

One end of a cable guard for an archery bow is received in a bore in the bow riser. The bore is substantially parallel to the plane of the drawstring. A hole in the riser transverse to the plane of the drawstring houses two clamp members in engagement with the end portion of the cable guard. A bolt extending through one clamp member and threadably received in the other clamp member draws the clamp members toward each other to frictionally clamp the cable guard in place.

A bow limb includes an elongated member having a plurality of strands of glass fiber extending longitudinally within the member and a reinforcing sheet adjacent a major surface of the member, preferably the convex surface of the limb when the limb is flexed. The sheet includes a plurality of carbon fibers that are either unidirectional or bi-directional and, if bi-directional, are woven with the warp of the fibers at an angle to the length of the limb. The angle is adjusted to control the characteristics of the limb.

In an archery bow, variations in the alignment between the limbs and the handle due to manufacturing tolerances or the preferences of an archer are accommodated with a laterally adjustable limb pocket having an elongated feature extending across the pocket. The feature permits at least a portion of the pocket to move from side to side on the handle. The feature is a ridge having a dovetail cross-section for engaging a dovetail slot in the end of the handle. Alternatively, the feature is a hole elongated in a side to side direction across the pocket. The hole receives an internally threaded bushing for locating the pocket while permitting rotation of the pocket about a pivot. For a pair of holes elongated in a side to side direction, the position of the pocket relative to the handle is controlled either by opposed setscrews or by an adjustment screw threaded into the handle.

The grip for an archery bow is attached to the handle of the bow and can translate (move from side to side) and tilt. The grip is attached to the handle by two screws engaging threaded inserts screwed into the handle. The position of the threaded inserts in the handle determines the side to side position of the grip. The screws pass through elongated slots in one side of the grip, with the slots elongated in different directions, thus enabling one to adjust the tilt of the grip relative to the handle. The threaded inserts are preferably held in position by locking inserts engaging the threaded inserts within the handle.

Manufacturing a handle for an archery bow is simplified by extruding a strip having the side to side cross-sectional shape of the handle, cutting the strip into blanks, and machining each blank according to the front to rear outline desired for each handle. Many differently shaped handles can be made from the same shape blanks.

The limb in each pocket of a compound archery bow is separated from the pocket by a free-floating pivot having tabs at each end extending between the limb and the pocket and by an end cap separating the end of the limb from the pocket. A flange on the end cap extends past the inside surface of the limb to prevent the limb from being overtightened by contact with the inside of the limb pocket when the limb bolt is overtightened.

A compound archery bow has an adjustable anchor in which a bracket having two arms is connected to the axle upon which the wheels rotate. The arms are interconnected by a translation mechanism for moveably locating the end of the cable along a path parallel to the axle. The translation mechanism is a cylindrical member having a helical groove in the outer surface thereof. The free end of the cable is looped over the cylindrical member and fastened to the cable. Rotating the cylindrical member causes the looped end of the cable to change position from side to side across the limb, permitting adjustment to minimize the net torque on the limb. Other embodiments of the translation mechanism include a pulley, parallel to the other pulleys, mounted on a threaded axle, or a threaded eyelet attached to the end of the cable and engaging a bolt connected to the two arms of the anchor bracket. A fixed anchor locates the cable at a predetermined position across the width of the limb to optimize the torques on the limbs for a given pair of wheels.

An archery bow, such as a compound bow, is provided with pivoting pocket members for attaching each limb to the bow handle. Each pocket has a recess for receiving the fixed end of a limb and is attached to the handle by an adjustment bolt through the limb and the pocket. A pair of pocket walls extend away from the recess to straddle the end of the handle. The pocket pivots about a pin passing through the end of the handle and through bores in the walls of the pocket.

An accessory mount for removable rigid securement of an accessory to a bow is disclosed. In one version, an accessory mount is integrally formed in the outer side face of the bow and provides for the mounting of a bow quiver, a sight for the archer to use in aiming, an overdraw mechanism, or other accessory. More specifically, the mount includes a recess and is defined by a bottom wall of a shallow depth and a pair of horizontal spaced sidewalls and a front wall. The front wall of the recess includes a pair of rectilinear walls extending forwardly and joined at an angle, preferably obtuse, thereby creating a wedge shape having an apex point. The accessory to be mounted includes a corresponding wedge-shaped shoe for fitting into the recess. Threaded fasteners securely engage the shoe in the recess. In alternative versions, male and female interlocking members are provided respectively on the accessory and the archery bow. What is critical is that they be essentially planar in their mating engagement, and have sufficient points to lock the same against rotation in any direction, coupled with screws for removably securing the accessory to the bow.

An archery bow handle or riser, in which the riser is cut out sufficiently to permit a broad head arrowhead to pass rearwardly of the hand grip section, and upon release of the arrow, to avoid interference with the riser by both the broad head point as well as the vanes at the rear portion of the arrow is disclosed. Provision is made beneath the riser sight window offset to mount an arrow rest, which may interlock into a cutout, and which extends somewhat further offset in order to position the arrow on the centerline of the bow so that it will behave as an arrow fired with a prior-art type bow handle riser, but accommodating a shorter arrow with a broad head, and avoiding the frictional and deflecting contact of the vanes with the riser. Vane deflection may be a problem with any length arrow and any type of arrow head used on a bow without the sight window offset feature as set forth in the present invention.

A combination bracket for securing to a bow. The bracket in a unitary and properly spaced fashion, provides for the mounting of a bow quiver, and also a sight for the archer to use in aiming the bow. More specifically the unit includes a central combination bracket mounting segment from which the sight bracket extends in one direction and the bow quiver bracket extends in another direction. The unit is symmetrical about a horizontal axis. This symmetrical configuration makes the mount suitable for left-hand or right-hand applications. The unit may be produced by injection molding of plastic, machining, or casting by the various known techniques.
